“More news, less junk.Faster.”
That pretty much describes the new NetNewsWire RSS reader for Mac. NetNewsWire was a staple on my Mac from 2002 through 2008. It has had a long and tumultuous history, including a time where it moved to an advertisement supported model (ick!), but it’s now back in the hands of its original developer.
Developed by Ranchero Software, NetNewsWire is (once again) everything I like about an RSS reader. It’s easy to use, fully featured, and (now) open source. An iOS version is forthcoming. Instead of scouring your favorite site’s blogs, hopping site to site like a caveman, NetNewsWire brings the news to you. Despite it’s beta status, I’ve had no issues with NetNewsWire on my Mac. It’s stable, fast, and best of all, it works just as well as I remembered it. The keyboard shortcuts to quickly refresh and catch up with my RSS feeds are still in my muscle memory. New features in version 5.0 that are notable for me are: support for Dark Mode, multiple accounts, and folders.
Welcome back, NetNewsWire. I can’t wait to see where you go from here.

August 17, 2019 at 8:39 pmI might give this a try. I’m using Fever (no longer supported, no longer available (iirc) because it does what I need. I still wish Google Reader was still around.

September 7, 2019 at 10:00 pmVery curious to know your thoughts on NetNewsWire. I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks (running the beta) – and I really like it for its speed and modern, clean interface.
