The Loyal Customer

The Apple Store phone exchange was loosely based on an anecdote I heard from someone who happens to work there. On panel 5, we have Dave Bergschneider, our first ever PC Weenies Extra.

For just $5, you can have a cameo role in an upcoming PCW strip!

Man this is so true as far as we (GA Tech) called the Apple store and got the same (almost) line for line… “I know Steve said they would ship today…” DUDE we got the same thing, gotta be a script they give them or something. Good post!

I love it! Hey Krishna, I couldn’t help but noticed the downed site yesterday and was curious if you’ve tried a plugin like wp-supercache for wordpress? It is specifically built to prevent Digg from overloading your site. Also you mentioned you are having issues with dedicated hosting but have you considered dividing the workload between multiple servers? I certainly be willing to donate some server space and bandwidth since I have a reseller account with hostgator over there in Florida.

    Hi Dave:

Yes, I have WP-SuperCache installed. I installed it a week back after one of my comics got dugg. I hadn’t considered spreading the workload between multiple servers. Would that mean multiple FTP sites?

I’ve just put into place a Plan “B”, that will hopefully be implemented by the first of next year.

Well there are a several ways of doing it and however the easiest scenario in your circumstance of images being the primary download, I’d suggest hosting all images remotely amongst a half dozen hosts and simply change the image path on your site when one goes down. You could potentially get some JavaScript to detect the image and if not found look in alternate location for it so you don’t have to worry about dead links and images. The JavaScript wouldn’t hurt your bandwidth either because it is a post load process (client side). Heck you could also get a personal hostgator account for $10/mo with crazy bandwidth and storage limits and that might workout for the images.

Man, I’m sorry about this happening. I’m glad the site is back up at least.

    Krishna —

Actually the spike in traffic may not be from Digg, but rather from Nitrozac & Snaggy over at JoyOfTech. That’s is where I learned of your site – I’ll bet a bunch of other folks did too!

Anyhow, I like what I’ve seen of PC Weenies and Uncubed. I’ve bookmarked the RSS feeds.

    Keep up the good work!
