Sheeplemania

September 9, 2009 is here (9/9/09 for those of you already playing), and this date is supposed to bear significance for the launch of a new video game bearing The Beatles blessings.

I like the Beatles.

And if this Rockband game opens the world up for the younger generation to better appreciate the efforts of Sir Paul, Ringo, John and George, than so be it.

It just feels a little plastic, what with all the marketing hype and all. Maybe that’s just me…

Thoughts on Beatles: Rockband?

    Fail.

Honestly, I couldn’t name a single beatles song which is actually good for rock band or guitar hero; while interesting, I can’t think of any which is actually challenging. The last setlist would have to really pull out all the stops and dig.

Yeah Rock Band/Guitar Hero is a double edged sword.
Sure, now a new generation of 14 year olds can put Sgt. Pepper on their iPod and learn the intro to Day Tripper on guitar, but it cheapens what it means to be a fan and skews the outside view of rock.
Target and the Gap market “rockstar” clothing, poser bands spring up overnight, and rock ‘n’ roll becomes a fad.
This might be alright with the new groups who are willing to sell out, but Guitar Hero claws at Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain (who would have hated it the most) and now the Beatles, half of which are dead.
It’s a way to get into music, but perhaps not the best way.

Krishna… your strip rocks… always on top of it.
(I agree, marketing ploy… what did you expect?)
Watch for re-makes and too much over-sampling bits of track everywhere in your daily life?
We were missing the rest of the PC Weenies family. Thanks Krishna!

thanks for the feedback, Jose! Yes, I feel like we’re all going to get overly saturated with everything Beatles in the weeks ahead… *braces for impact*

I like The Beatles too. I enjoy Rock Band. And if I had cash to throw around I’d probably buy this version of it- much to my husband’s chagrin since he’s not a Beatles fan. But since I haven’t forked over the money for any previous version of Rock Band, I won’t be purchasing this one either. This isn’t the clincher marketing pitch to make me buy the game. I’d rather listen on my old LPs and play air guitar.

Don’t forget that about tons of Beatles stuff was released as remastered box-set’s 09/09/09 too

I don’t hate the beatles but I don’t like ’em either. BUT I do respect ’em and their career.

I liked the beatles before this…and i like guitar hero / rock band… i really doubt this will cheapen them for me, even though i have more recently started to listen to other bands (mostly due to recently getting started on the whole gh/rb thing)
I just see it as a new way to experience some awesome music.

Tell me what you think!
