Guest-Starring Amanda Holstein!

Today’s comic guest stars Amanda Holstein, commissioned by her dad Bill.

Bill wrote:

When it comes to computers and electronics, my daughter is like a blond. She can spend hours typing a report, then either not save it or forget where she saved it. She also expect the Internet to respond instantly, and gets very frustrated when she has to wait for pages to load (probably due to all the junk she has downloaded on to our computer). And finally, she just got unlimited text on her cell phone, so she has forgotten how to TALK to her friends.

Thanks, Bill! Hope Amanda enjoys her guest-star comic!

Let me know what you think of the ‘toons today! Enjoy!

P.S. I’ve updated the “Propaganda” page with brand new PCW banners and stuff. Thanks to reader timelawd for alerting me to the fact that the previous banner image links were broken.

I DO remember the days of dial-up,and the long long hours of waiting for pages to load… I’m pretty sure my parents remember the long long hours of waiting for the line to be available for voice calls, as well
    :)
And it DOES feel like that was 100 years ago

I sound like this now when I’m talking about some tech stuff and I’m not even that old.

I remember those times… You would enter the web sites url, grab a cup of coffee and be back in time for the loaded website

    I like this one.

I can remember a time before Internet access. The best you could do was to dial a special number to connect to a BBS of a computer club, at 1200/75 bits per second (including an extra bit for every 7 bits to do a parity check). That was 25 years ago, and my computer was a Commodore 128 (1 Mhz 8-bit computer with 128 Kbyte of RAM memory and 180 Kbyte on an external diskdrive).

I started in the days of 200 bps modems, with some stints of 110 bps.

(Why 110? Because back then they used 11 bits to send one byte, starting with 300 bps on, they used 10 bits/byte.

I was at University in ’92 when the Web was just getting going, aweing my non-online friends at home at weekends with FAQs for Killer Instinct and buying Magic cards from America. Nostaglia!
Then again, when I first found PCW I read all the comics in reverse order, which meant the last (first) few were so dated tech-wise I felt like I’d just stepped out of the TARDIS bearing the gift of fire :)

Tell me what you think!
