A Final Salute

Art imitates life. After 5 years of keeping my Mac Pro’s box, it was time to finally say good-bye. Why do I like hanging on to old boxes? Perhaps it’s for nostalgia – as I attempt to relive the memories of opening the box to my (at the time) new computer and all its wondrous possibilities.

How about you? Do you keep all your tech gear’s boxes? Do you pitch them straight away? Let me know!

I tend to keep the boxes forever in case I (n)ever have to repack the gear to return it or I (n)ever move.

I tend to do the same, Coyoty. Even to the point of keeping boxes for years on end. I’d only recently gotten rid of the box that came with my PowerMac G5 -which was nearly 10 years old!) earlier this year.

Really late to this party … I look up the end of warranty date, write it on the box with big black marker, and throw it in the attic. Once a year I go up there and throw away any “expired” boxes.

I still have the box from my Apple //e that I bought in the early to mid 80’s. It’s pretty well beaten up now, full of a variety of stuff… Hmm… I don’t even have the computer anymore, I sold that in the 80’s (but then bought a newer Apple //e in the 90’s).

Now if I could only get that here in New York…

Tell me what you think!
