The brush you use for digital inking can make or break your work. I’ve used Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro and Manga Studio Pro. I always seem to come back to Manga Studio Pro in the end, because it simply smokes everything else I’ve used. So… what are my brush settings?
Read on, Kemosabe…
My initial brush settings were derived from Ray Frenden. I’ve modified his brush to add “Sharpen” and “Relative Brush Size” options.
Of particular note is the icon that’s directly below the circular brush shape. (The one with a squiggly line above a paper…)
This icon adjusts the size of the brush depending upon how far you’ve zoomed in or zoomed out. If you’re zoomed in, the brush gets smaller where you can add detailed strokes. When you’re fully zoomed out, the strokes get proportionally thicker. It works brilliantly!
Manga Studio Pro isn’t exactly intuitive, but experimentation with settings can result in a rewarding experience.

January 25, 2013 at 10:24 amI’m not sure if this is the appropriate venue for this, but I know you use MS quite often and I thought you might be a good resource. Anyway, my “tools” toolbar has completely disappeared. I’ve tried turning it off and on via the windows menu I’ve tried using “show all palettes”. Nothing brings it back. At present I have to either use keyboard shortcuts or use the beginner’s assistant to change tools. It sucks! Please help!
