This year I am making a commitment to learn Javascript, to add some neat tricks to what I’ve learned in HTML and CSS. Programming languages tend to intimidate a lot of people, but I see that it’s becoming even more increasingly important to know how to do it, if you’re trying to be marketable in the tech industry. My big hope is that schools start introducing programming classes at the early level (grades 3 through 5), to get children exposed to how fun programming can be. I could only dream of having such electives back in my school days…

Anyway, hats off to all of you who have decided to take the plunge and learn a programming language this year. In my opinion, it’s never been a better time to start!

The ‘on’ switch reminds me of my senior year in high school… The guidance counselor got a new Epson computer and asked me, one of the school computer nerds, to help get his software set up. The power switch was hidden behind a door, designed to blend in with the case, but I didn’t phrase my question smartly, I asked, “how do I turn it on?”

Krishna, long time RSS reader, first time poster!

A small UK charity called ‘Raspberry Pi’ is on the cusp of launching a £16 ($25) computer that is aimed at getting youngsters into coding and old school hacking! Remember the BBC Micro? Remember Elite? The same guys!

I’m going to work on HTML 5, C++, and brush up my Java skills….There is a site that was used by several of my classmates when they were stumped on a problem….The New Boston….He has tutorials on several different programing languages along with quite a bit more on other subjects. It may be worth giving them a look….I know it helped me and others when we just got stuck.
