Face Time

A recent article suggested that couples are spending more and more time in front of tablets and laptops when watching television. These people seem to enjoy interacting with their “friends” more than the people that they are sharing the same room with.

Has virtual conversation replaced face-to-face conversation altogether? How do you feel about the time you spend on virtual space vs. meat space? How much is too much? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

P.S. I’ve created a new Facebook page for fans and friends of my work. See you on the flip side!

This is a great topic, worth a post on itself, which I’m sure has been done.
In my family’s case, we all like to do different things, but we do share what we do a lot with each other. There’s always something new to talk about. And when we sit together, whether its dinner, a movie, homework, or fun time, we never connect online while we’re at it. We’ve found a good balance, for now. But in public, or even with the rest of the family, its face to face time.
I do hate to see folks in public, ignoring their companions while on their handheld devices. I think its disrespectful. Whether its the mother on the cell phone all through a restaurant meal while their kids play with their handheld games. I can see disconnecting oneself in a bus, or a waiting room, specially when you know you don’t want to talk to the people next to you, but if you’re with family and friends, it is not considerate.
Anyway… I could probably go on, living in a society where this is commonplace.
Last example. A couple, waiting outside a theater, leaning against the same column, both busy with their cell phones, texting or online, not BEING with each other. Pretty sad eh?
One good thing comes of it. You learn to really appreciate face time!
That is all… whew (sorry for the length of this. I guess it was something I wanted to say for some time).
Awesome, hard hitting strip today, Krishna!

I’ll admit to having my laptop out while watching TV. However, I’m usually searching IMDB, Wikipedia, and the like for details on what I’m currently watching. (or what will be on next.)

Oh the irony of that comment after that comic!

Tell me what you think!
