I have many fond memories playing with LEGO bricks. As kids, my sister and I were huge LEGO fans, building gas stations, space ships, and crazy vehicles.
Today, I shared that experience with my daughter Sonia. Mom and Dad brought my old bricks down, and together Sonia and I spent the afternoon building crazy contraptions.
My favorite LEGO sets were the Expert Builder series. I coveted the Car Chassis set, in particular, because of the working pistons, steering wheel and adjustable seats. If my memory serves me, the set back then was over $100.
My first Expert Builder set was the 8845 Dune Buggy.
As a kid, some of my first mail order purchases were from the LEGO parts store. I remember poring over the LEGO catalogs daydreaming about the pieces and sets I wanted to order. All in the heady days before the Internet.
Anyway, Sonia and I had a lot of fun playing LEGOs today. I reconnected with my inner kid, and it was great!
Here’s what I built (it’s still a work in progress):
What are some of your favorite LEGO memories?

Then again, one of my favorite spaceships were pencil sharpeners in the rough shape of the starships from the Rocket Robin Hood, the animated series.
