What makes this really work is the composition. You did a terrific job with it, K. The bride’s dress cannot be white, because otherwise the reveal would have been in panel 2. For the same reason, the bouquet has to be covered by the door in panel 2. Similarly, the veil is not a full one, so the unprepared (like me) might just think it’s an odd hat at first.
Panel 3 is a very nice long perspective shot, and shows the difficulty of working with constrained panel sizes. You managed to pack it all in without losing anything.
Most revealing, to me, are Gus’ hands in panel 3. They are down by his sides instead of reaching for the bride. Perhaps I am reading too much into it.
I was having a hard time understanding it as well at first. If that first comment wouldn’t have been there I’d still be lost. :) Still an awesome story line nonetheless.

Good job, K!

August 26, 2010 at 6:46 amOK, I guess I’m dense. I didn’t have a clue there was a wedding going on until the comment above. Too subtle for me, I guess.

August 26, 2010 at 11:07 pmMy subconscious said the ring was just another camera flash.
I kinda disagree with the first commenter though. A white dress wouldn’t have given it away, particularly because it’s not a ‘traditional’ dress.
Interesting story-line though! Hope he doesn’t lose it all to this floozy! :D

August 27, 2010 at 10:12 amI didn’t get that it was a wedding, either, until I read the comments. I just thought it was some kind of press conference for his getting the money.
Is the bride blowing a bubble gum bubble in the second panel? At her wedding?
