If you’re on Facebook, you’ve no doubt run into “Farmville”, which can best be described as “the game that annoys the hell out of everyone else who’s NOT obsessively addicted to Farmville”. I don’t care how many cows you’ve milked, or whether your corn needs to be picked, and I have no plans on helping your farm grow. (I despise yard work, both real and virtual.) I’m not convinced why anyone would play it, except if you’re really, really bored at work.
What do you think of Farmville? If you play it, what makes the game so great? (Maybe I’m missing something.) Sound off in the comments below.

January 21, 2010 at 12:47 amI absolutely loved this strip!! I played farmville for about a week when the game was in the beta stages or what not back in the spring of 09. It was very boring, and back then to harvest crops and plant seeds you had to click on each square individually. Very tedious job, even now that they fixed alot of things, still find it to be very boring!

January 21, 2010 at 1:34 amI have never played Farmville, in fact the whole app thing in Facebook I find generally annoying, but I have to agree with Krishna’s comments. Why would I care how many sheep you have and why do people actually want more of them.
On a slightly different note, I’m a bit reminded of some of the rumors I’ve heard in Shanghai of net cafes essentially being sweat shops for middle school girls harvesting gold on WOW and then selling it on eBay for real cash.

January 21, 2010 at 2:13 amHaha yeah I don’t play any Facebook apps, way too busy in real life, but my friend (who I thought was normal) created a ton of accounts just to help him in farmville.

January 21, 2010 at 3:09 amThose stupid Farmville updates made me quit Facebook, so annoying. In the Netherlands most people use Hyves anyway, so I don’t miss it.

January 21, 2010 at 4:28 amFarmville, Mafia Wars, Fish Tank – all these things caused me to deactivate my FB account. Utterly Pointless, utterly annoying for those of us who couldn’t give two damn hoots about any of it, and really don’t want to know when you’ve found a lost kitten on your farm, failed ot feed your fish, or WHATEVER!

January 21, 2010 at 5:18 amGreat Comic. I have friends who are into Farmville, and that fish one, etc.
Why can’t they just play proper, fun, games?
This reminds me of a funny video spoofing Farmville:

January 21, 2010 at 8:18 amI don’t play any games on Facebook. I use Facebook to talk to my friends and provide updates on my comic and that’s pretty much it ( I do sometimes answer some Movie quizzes, but that’s about it.
One good thing in Facebook is the ability of hiding and blocking stuff you don’t want to see in your news/live feed.
So anytime I see a new Apps update showing up, I always hide it. Farmville has been hidden on my Facebook a very long time ago, I don’t even know what it looks like. I’m just happy for not being part of this insanity :P

January 21, 2010 at 8:32 amWell, it can’t be all bad… Most of the cute girls at the office are playing it… :)
Granted, I haven’t tried it yet, and I turned off all the Farmville posts in my newsfeed so I only see them if I go to someone’s profile.

January 21, 2010 at 1:24 pmAll of those apps on Facebook are the reason I changed my default from News Feed to Status Updates only….That way I do not get all the “app updates” from everyone…..I won’t say too much about Farmville…since my wife plays it (I do like sleeping in my bed).

January 21, 2010 at 8:27 pmMafia Wars, Farm Ville, etc are the modern equivalent of BBS Games or Doors.. They’re just super annoying since now they’re trying to garner ad revenue. Interesting side note, Krishna is the one who introduced me to BBSs back in the day!

January 23, 2010 at 4:09 am@Adrian Chrysanthou ~ Maybe I’m wrong, but the “beta” you mention, isn’t that Farm Town? I think it was by a different studio, but meh, I could be wrong. Either way, it was indeed very tedious.
@Krishna ~ lmao, it took me a couple readings before I actually noticed the last line. Sometimes a phrase get’s so commonly heard that even when there’s a deliberate mistake like that you don’t notice it, your mind just auto-corrects it. And once I finally saw it, I honestly lol’d! Nice one!

January 27, 2010 at 12:25 amThis one gave me a real good laugh! *grin* Thanks!
I can’t stand Farmville. The rules are ridiculous. Strawberries that have to be tended every 4 hours? That’s absurd. And my grad student friend had to babysit his mother’s account while she was on vacation, so she’d still get her “harvest”. But some people apparently find it soothing. Erk. Not me. I’ll keep growing my real strawberries – that way I get something besides vapor for my efforts.
