Lunch Plans

Today marks my first time using an iPad Pro to draw the strip. Colors and dialogue were added using Photoshop on my Hackintosh.

My Wacom Cintiq 27 QHD, nearly a year old, had some screen clouding issues that warranted a return back to Wacom HQ. While the return means I’ll be without my main drawing device for upwards of a month, the iPad Pro (with Procreate) did a nice job filling in. I’m still adjusting line weight and pressure sensitivity settings to meet my needs, but it seems promising.

More on the Wacom Cintiq in an upcoming blog post. Let me know what you think of today’s strip. Can you spot any differences?

When this comic first popped up, it did seem that there was something slightly different about it. Comparing it to the previous one, I can see a small difference, though it’s hard to put my finger on it. I think maybe the iPad pro/Procreate version seems slightly heavier and a little less crisp. But this is really nit-picking. We’re talking about just a couple of degrees difference. I think the iPad will make a good stand-in until you get the Cintiq back.

It seems to work okay for me – the surface of the iPad Pro is a little too smooth, compared to the Cintiq. It’s not a bad thing, but just something that I’ve noticed while drawing with it. I’ll need more practice, for sure.

Right, like you said, you were still adjusting weight and pressure sensitivity. Still, the comic looks pretty darn good, all things considered. You’ll be putting the iPad Pro though it’s paces, for sure. As with my Galaxy Tab S3, I’m amazed at what these tablets are capable of.

Tell me what you think!
