Review: Bestek 2 in 1 lamp
They say that there is a desk lamp for every kind of person. The Bestek 2 in 1 Dimmable LED Table Lamp ($35.99) is for those folks who want the convenience of an adjustable lamp at a reasonable price. This particular unit is a bit more specialized than other lamps in that it can also serve as a clip-on light, clamping to the side of a desk or table, which reclaims more desk real estate in the process.
I’ve had the Bestek Two in One Lamp for over two months now. I feel that the extra time I’ve spent with it gives me a better perspective of how well it functions and its overall durability.
But first, let’s see what’s in the box.
The Bestek 2 in 1 desk lamp is a minimalist design. The box it comes in includes the lamp (with attached arm), a detachable base, a C clamp, a quick start instruction manual and a power cord. Also included are a large and small wrench for tightening the screws.
The lamp itself comes in a dark brushed metal finish. The arm and base have a durable feel, due to its aluminum alloy makeup.
Set-up was simple and straight forward. Below are the front and side views of the lamp.
The top of the lamp unit features a button that toggles between three lighting modes (30%, 60%, 100%) and on/off.
The lamp attaches to the C clamp base by way of an included screw. With the clamp mounted, the arm can swivel up to 360 degrees. (The manufacturer recommends a maximum adjustment of 135 degrees to prevent damage.)
The arm of the lamp has two hinges – the one closest to the bulb adjusts the angle of the light source, while the other (which is closer to the base) controls the overall angle. The hinges are firm but easily adjustable. Once the arm is in position it stays in position.
The LED bulb outputs 750LUx with a color temperature range between 5500 and 6000K. and is rated for 60,000 hours of service life. It consumes 8W of power. When powered on, the lamp is warm to the touch, but not hot. The three brightness modes toggled easily enough, thanks to the convenient top mounted button. The light itself is white in color, making it ideal to use for reading. The lamp has an adjustable range of 135 degrees.
Make no mistake, the Bestek Two in One is a well designed desk lamp – it’s perfect for your office desk or your nightstand. It’s light enough to move and adjust and strong enough to stay in its position. The power / dimmer button is very responsive to the touch and its positioning on the lamp makes it easy to toggle. I prefer this layout over those lamp designs which have power / dimming buttons located on the base.
