While the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X are the new hotness, many of us are more than satisfied with our current smartphone. A few months ago, I made the upgrade to the iPhone 7, because a) my daughter would be using my old iPhone 6s and b) I was able to get one for a great deal. I don’t mind being one generation behind on my smart phone, as it does everything I need and more.
Nevertheless, I needed a case to protect my new “precious”. Unsurprisingly, there is no shortage of options when it comes to iPhone cases. Shortly after I had my new iPhone in hand, Jison Cases approached me to test out one of their own: the JS-IP7-02A20 model, to be precise. This particular case is designed for the iPhone 7. It sells for about $26, but you can find it south of $20 online. How does this case fare in day to day use? I tested it for about a month before writing this review.
The Jison case comes packed in a very simple box.
Upon opening it, you’ll see a small cardboard facsimile of an iPhone inside the case.
The case is made of genuine leather, and sports a hard back. It’s very thin, making it incredibly light to hold in one’s hand. To my touch, the case’s surface is very smooth – almost too smooth. More on that in a bit.
The back of the case features the Jison logo, and sports an opening to accommodate the iPhone 7’s camera.
The side view features covered buttons to keep them free from dust. There is an opening on the left, to accommodate the iPhone 7’s mute switch to mute / turn on audio. On a personal note, I wish this opening were a little larger for my fat fingers. Those with slender fingers shouldn’t have a problem, though. Surprisingly, the case does not feature any protection or coverage for the bottom of the iPhone 7, where the Lightning port resides. The overall fit is perfect.
Fitting the iPhone 7 inside the case was a breeze. As far as looks go, it’s clean and functional and exudes a professional look.
As a case, I like the way the Jison model looks. It’s minimalist in appearance and feels well built. In my usage, though, I found the Jison case’s smooth surface to be a little too slick. On more than one occasion I thought my iPhone would fall out of my hand. Thankfully, it didn’t.
I was given this case for review. But would I buy one? The answer would be no, unless something could be done to improve the case’s grip. As it stands, the Jison case feels a little too smooth in my hands – enough to make me feel nervous when I was handling my iPhone 7. But your mileage may vary. The best way to know for sure is to test one out for yourself. The Jison case earns 4 Bob Weiners.
