If you’re following me on Twitter, you probably know that I’ve decided to change the publication schedule of PC Weenies.
Effective next week, and from here on out, I’m publishing the comic every Tuesday and Thursday, instead of M-W-F. There’s a few reasons for this change. In a nutshell:
The lighter load should ease the burden somewhat. I put so much of myself into my work, that sometimes I forget to see the forrest from the trees. While my goal has always been to make fun comics and entertain people from around the world, I guess after 10 years, I just want more out of it. The extra time gained can now be channeled towards making some PCW and UN3 books, something I’ve always wanted to do.
Invariably this shift will upset some people. And for that, I apologize. I strive to give my best in all my efforts, and will continue to make comics that bring me happiness. I’m just laying all my cards on the table. Thanks for hearing me out.
Stay ‘tooned,
-Krishna

April 3, 2009 at 7:49 amWell, of course I am disappointed to only get my fix twice a week, instead of three times a week.
However, I completely understand your reasoning. I have a good friend who’s an artist, and I know how much work is involved in what you do.
I really enjoy both comics. If you put out a collection, I would buy a copy.

April 3, 2009 at 8:25 amSo what I’m hearing is that you’ll slow down the rate they come out but pick up more work by getting books together from the two toons you already do. It just seems, as I read your post that you’ve still filled that “free” time with something else. Now of course I don’t know the full extent of your schedule and maybe the creation of your books won’t take as much time as I’m thinking but most definitely spend much time as you can with the fam… They are the ones that will always have your back when times get tough – one way or the other. And when I say fam I mean your wife and daughter. You and your wife are one, and parents, siblings, nephews, and other relatives may flake out but you make your immediate family tight and they’ll stick with you through anything.
Not sure why all this came out but it’s good anyway, for me, you, and possibly some of your readers…. it’s the Teacher in me! :)
As always I wish you the best Krish.

April 3, 2009 at 8:35 amYour work is awesome, but I congratulate you on spending more time with the family. Just make sure you actually get to spend the extra time you were looking for with your family – it can be darn hard not let other things take over your family time.
Many greetings

April 3, 2009 at 10:26 amAs long as you don’t abandon your cartoon, I’m sure people will be happy to read it twice a week instead of 3 times. Don’t be discouraged by negative comments! It’s ok to have a life outside of your work! :)

April 3, 2009 at 5:15 pmOkay – I do like the fact you want to spent more time with the family and do something else besides draw strips and you have every right to do so and we as a fans should respect that BUT
don’t say “To be blunt, I’m not seeing much return on my investment” because you aren’t investing the amount you should, could and would. I mean, your revenues are ads, guest-star-strips and selling prints. If there’s more – I can’t see it.
You have to have stuff to sell, something concrete (finish the book already), you have to advertise on somewhere else and if you are advertising somewhere now you have to do it somewhere else if it’s not bringing you any food on the table. Being on few podcast which don’t quite frankly gather much listeners to be frank compared to the stuff you can achieve by doing more. You need to get the word out, fast and BIG!
Fans will help, you don’t have to carry the load yourself – I will help and I bet there are LOTS of other fans to help, too.
I don’t mean to be blunt here either but I can honestly say that you just can’t expect that staying on schedule, being online with the strip 10 years or so and having too little to sell to the people can bring money to the bank account. Promoting must be constant, selling much be at least semi-constant and you really have to get out more to the cons and make yourself known for the right crowds because really the Internet is just huge dump where you can rarely find really good stuff as PCW is.
I hope I didn’t hurt your or anyone else’s feelings, I’m glad to read the strip as it is and will be in the future. It was only that one sentence that really bugged me….. I know it’s hard but there’s always light ;) stay happy and we are happy
PS: to the fans possibly reading this – I just commissioned Krishna to do a guest-strip of yours truly and I really recommend that you do the same!

April 3, 2009 at 5:20 pmFirst Jarmo – thanks for your support. Let me clarify: I want PC Weenies to reach a much larger audience. I know it’s possible. I’m not looking for income (though I do agree with your suggestions on how to make more) – what I’m looking for is more people to keep sharing the ‘toon with others. A grass-roots movement is what I’m hoping for.

April 3, 2009 at 7:06 pmLike the rest my weeks will be a wee bit less funnier….but I more than understand. Having raised 2 kids, I know how much time it takes when they are young….And there are things you just don’t want to miss,
To get others to help promote your site….I know there are some out there that create MySpace sites or Facebook Sites that their fans can join…Which in turn gives a bit of advertising through them to their friends. I have found a couple of sites I go to often this way. It was on my friends accounts and I clicked on them to see what they were.

April 4, 2009 at 3:48 pmYou know, it saddens me to see the changes in publication, but you have to do what you have to do. Family is important. And of course, you have to keep focus on what makes you happy :D
I wish you the best of luck, and will be good for a PCW book for sure!
