Samsung 305T (Slight Return)

My replacement Samsung 305T display arrived this evening. I was excited. Finally, a working monitor. Then I saw this:

uh, oh. Is that a gaping hole in the box I see? Probably nothing…

Then I looked at the styrofoam. Hmmm – cracked on one edge. This isn’t good…

Lifting the monitor was a piece of cake. Good thing it was intact. I powered it up – and for a few brief seconds, I was elated. Then I noticed something.

Look closely.

Not so good. It’s a weird red patch of red video. Maybe it’ll go away…

So I fired up a browser… and discovered that the red banding is about 1.5″ thick and about 4″ from the left side of the display.

Unacceptable.

So I called Samsung – and a new replacement is being sent over next week. To Samsung’s credit – everyone I’ve spoken with has been polite, helpful and prompt. I really hope that this is an isolated incident. Hopefully the third time’s a charm.

Ah yes, some of us are just plain lucky that way. Every laptop I’ve ever bought has come with a faulty battery, I frequently have to repair by warrenty, and just recently I had a month old external harddrive fail on me. Thats life though right? Good luck with the replacement replacement monitor :)

Please keep us updated, the performance of Samsung in this case is of very big intrest for me. There was a coverage in german computer print magazine (c’t, the only public reference is this one: http://www.heise.de/ct/inhalt/2009/07/80/) this issue confirming some problems like yours with Samsung.

Tell me what you think!
