Review: Pretty Much Everything

“Pretty Much Everything” by Aaron James Draplin is an 8 x 10 inch, 256 page powerhouse of a book that provides a mid-career survey of work by designer Aaron James Draplin. Amid some amazing design work (logos, posters, album art) the book also looks back at how Draplin got his start in the business, covering his early-life (including his screw-ups and successes). The book walks the reader through Draplin’s career, from working on various Snowboarding mags to going into business for himself. The book also includes Draplin’s process work behind his designs, mixed in with design advice that is funny, down-to-earth and practical, like the man himself.

So… who is Aaron James Draplin? Watch this video and you’ll get an idea.

Besides being the best-looking book I’ve picked up in a while (it’s heavy, and it’s orange, and I think you can kill a man with it), “Pretty Much Everything” is packed to its meaty brim with loads of juicy content that’s sure to inspire designers young and old. What I like most about the book is its refreshing honesty and humor. With Draplin, there is no pretension – what you see is what you get. I like that. And what you get with “Pretty Much Everything” is solid advice that’s both real and inspiring, meticulously curated and arranged design work, and a candid look at the man himself. This book is a fantastic read, for both non-designers and designers alike. I give it my highest recommendation. Get inspired and grab your copy today.

“Pretty Much Everything” earns 5 out of 5 Bob Weiners.
