Review: ANNT 10W Gooseneck LED Desk Lamp

Whether it’s diving into a thick trade paperback or reading a stack of Power Man and Iron Fist comics, settling in with reading material before bed has always been one of my favorite pre-sleep activities.

But my old halogen lamp wasn’t cutting it anymore. Yes, it was bright on my eyes, but to the point where it was beginning to induce minor eyestrain. In terms of adjustability, my halogen lamp was cumbersome and clunky, so it was time for me to seek out alternatives.

I wanted a lamp that would be comfortable in my eyes that was also easy to adjust. I’m no stranger to LED desk lamps. I’ve reviewed a few models in the past, which I use in my home studio. I’ve been happy with them, too.

A few weeks ago, I was approached by ANNT to see if I would give their 10W Gooseneck LED desk lamp a spin. Adjustable neck and dimmable LED lights? Sure! I’m in.

A few days later, my ANNT LED lamp arrived in a well packed, plain packaged box. Inside the box is a small quick start guide, a power supply and the lamp itself.

Build Quality

The ANNT Gooseneck lamp has a matte finish and comprised of high quality metal and plastic. It’s light at 1.6 lbs, but don’t let that fool you – it has a sturdy base. (More on that in a bit.) The matte finish is particularly nice as it doesn’t attract fingerprints. The base of the unit is soft and does not scratch the furniture underneath.

The front of the unit features touch controls that illuminate when the device is plugged in and on. The buttons are easy to press particularly when you’re waking up in the middle of the night.

The controls feature three separate lighting modes (white, white-yellow, and yellow), with five levels of brightness for each mode. The touch controls also include a handy 30 minute light timer that will automatically turn the unit off by itself. This is a welcome feature – and one I would like to see on other LED products.

The back of the ANNT Gooseneck lamp has a power input and a USB port. The USB port can charge smartphones and tablets (iPads, Android, iPhones) up to 1.5A. With it, I can charge my device while I sleep and save a power plug in the process.

The adjustable gooseneck is easy to adjust and maintains its position well. I could easily maneuver the lamp with one hand.

Real World Usage

With my halogen lamp, I would fumble around for the on/off switch (tacked onto the wire). I’m virtually blind at night, so finding the light switch would often result in knocking my eyeglasses and smartphone to the floor. With the ANNT unit’s convenient touch controls, I never once had an issue turning the unit on or off.

As far as the light itself, I appreciated the larger LED surface area. Adjusting the temperature and brightness of the ANNT unit was simple and straightforward. My favorite mode is the yellow light mode. It provides focus on my reading material without over stimulating my eyes.

Design-wise, the ANNT Gooseneck lamp fits with our clean, minimalistic layout in our bedroom. (It passed the wife test.) ;)

Conclusion

All in all I find this unit to be a very high-quality build. ANNT has built an incredibly versatile and adjustable desk lamp with many different light temperature options to choose from. With intuitive touch controls, a flexible lamp head and a solid base, there’s a lot to like. In terms of price, the ANNT Gooseneck lamp retails for $129.99, but can be easily had on Amazon for about $40. Even at the discounted price, it’s a touch more expensive than comparable models. I couldn’t find any negatives with this product, aside from the price. A $30 price point seems more in-line with what I am willing to spend for this product. The ANNT Gooseneck LED desk lamp earns 4.5 out of 5 Bob Weiners.
