Software

Below is a list of applications and utilities I use to create the PC Weenies comic and support the site. Check back periodically as this compilation will undoubtedly grow.

  • Leopard (aka 10.5): Installed on both of my production Macs. Rock-solid, especially after the 10.5.1 release.
  • Launchbar: there are application launchers, and then there is Launchbar. I’ve used the others (Butler, QuickSilver, and Apple’s own Spotlight, to name a few) – but in terms of speediness in search and overall accuracy, Launchbar wins hands down.
  • Corel Painter X: the best natural media emulation software bar none. I use the Scratchboard tool within Painter to lay down my digital inks.
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 Standard Edition: The 800 lb gorilla image processing app. Used for colors, captions, and just about everything else in my cartooning workflow.
  • NetNewsWire: the best-hands down RSS reader on the Mac platform. Used regularly for researching ‘toon ideas.
  • Transmit: world-class FTP software built by a world-class company. I’ve used this program for all my FTP needs since the very beginning (when it was known as Transit under the Mac ‘Classic’ OS). It was good then, and it’s incredible now.
  • WordPress: the very foundation of this site runs on this web app.
  • Comicpress: of course, WordPress by itself would be totally useless without Tyler Martin’s incredible webcomic-site-in-a-digital-box app. Comicpress is both intuitive and powerful. When I think of Killer App, I think of Comicpress.
