We recently upgraded from our venerable garage door to a MyQ Chamberlain WiFi enabled model. The new garage door works great, just like our old one did. But the WiFi features I was mostly interested in did not work out of the box. In short, I spent several days trying to get our Eero mesh network to talk to the MyQ. The problem?
The MyQ app would time out after entering our home network’s password. The MyQ would “see” our network, but refuse to connect. To make matters more irritating, the MyQ app After some troubleshooting, I jumped on the Internet to see if other Eero owners were having similar issues.
Lo and behold, they were!
The long and short of it is that the MyQ does not support the new WPA3 protocol. In the Eero app, you’ll have to turn that option off. The setting to disable WPA3 is located under Discover > Eero Labs > WPA3. Make sure that’s off and your MyQ should easily find your home network.
Of course, the real question is: when will Chamberlain support the more robust new WPA3 protocol?
There doesn’t seem to be any method of upgrading the device’s firmware in order to do so.

January 20, 2021 at 5:53 pmHi Krishna! I love the (uh oh, just got a pop-up for free PCWeenies comics in my mailbox. Is that outdated?) app!
A few years ago, we got a MyQ Chamberlin garage door. Last month, we got a wifi kit to make our other garage door wifi operated! Did you know they do that too?
Guess I’m lucky I don’t have the Eero router.

January 20, 2021 at 6:48 pmHi Dave!
I’ll have to turn off that pop-up. Thanks for the heads-up! At some point when the dust settles, I’ll kick out more comics and have the Toon Mailer running again. We opted for a new garage opener as our old one was on its way to retirement. With the new config, my Eero router works great with the MyQ garage door!
