Review: Cable Labels

If you’re like me, you probably have a rat’s nest of cables behind your TV, computer or entertainment center.

Tracing cables in this rat’s nest can be a huge pain. That’s where Cable Labels come in. These easy to use, color-coded, reusable velcro connectors make short work of what would normally be a painful task. Cable Labels come in many flavors and quantities: I purchased a 20 pack multi-color pack for about $7. Inside the pack are 10 matching pairs of cable labels. The labels are round and are easily secured and detached via Velcro. You can also write on them, using a Sharpie.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I took it upon myself to properly organize and route each and every cable between all the six machines I have in my small studio space. It was no simple feat, taking me the better part of 6 hours to complete, from start to finish. (I have a LOT of cables.)

While reconnecting the cables, I affixed each cable with a pair of Cable Labels (securing one at the source and one at the destination). Now, if I need to unplug or trace a cable for troubleshooting purposes, I can easily and accurately identify the specific cable I need. No more unplugging the wrong cord or cable!

At $7 for a pack of Cable Labels, the price is more than fair. I recommend the color coded pack (Wrap-It Storage also sells a pack with only white labels.) For future versions, I would like to see more colors AND a variety of Cable Label sizes to accommodate thicker cables, like those that connect to a computer’s power supply. But that’s just a nit-pick.

Every now and then, I come across a product that makes me wonder how I could survive without it. Cable Labels, by Wrap-It Storage, is one of those products.
