Don’t get me wrong: I hate cable management with a passion. Imagine the herculean task of cable managing 500+ computers in an academic setting. That was me, 13 years ago. I still get nightmares when I think about how tedious and back-breaking it was.
Over the years, I have tried many different approaches to cable management, both at home and at work. I started with zip-ties years ago and finally settled on simple velcro strips.
A company called Eleclover has yet another solution for your cable management needs; one that offers a bit more flexibility than using tie-wraps or velcro. Last week the company sent over their 20″ Cable / Cord Management Sleeve Kit for me to evaluate.
This kit, which includes four 20″ cable sleeves, 15 cable ties, and 6 cable clips, retails for about $50, but can be purchased online for about $15.
Let’s start with the cable clips. Each unit has three slots to accommodate three cables – and sticks via adhesive to your desk. No more USB cables dangling on the floor.
The Eleclover sleeves themselves are made out of neoprene, which feels soft to the touch and offers a high degree of flexibility. The idea with this solution involves wrapping the sleeve around your cables, then zipping the sleeve up. The sleeves measure 20″ each, and offer a maximum diameter of 1 inch, which allows for up to 10 to 15 normal size cables to fit inside.
The zipper itself is of good build quality. Aligning the zipper with the thread takes some work, particularly if you’re on your back and working in a tight location. Beyond that, the Eleclover sleeves just work.
Here’s what the situation behind my desk looked like before the Eleclover sleeves. It’s not quite the rat’s nest, but it still looks untidy.
And here we have another shot of the same location, after installing the Eleclover sleeves.
I got a bit ambitious (at the expense of my bad back) and installed the additional sleeves in different locations (pictured below).
I didn’t bother with the included cable ties because my computing setup changes constantly, depending upon what I’m evaluating and reviewing. I’d probably use the cable ties for my TV setup, since that setup is more or less fixed.
Eleclover has come up with an elegant solution for cable management. Their sleeves look good and feel durable. Best of all, they are easy to install. The inclusion of the cable clips and cable ties in the package was a nice touch. For my money (approximately $15 online), it’s a wise investment.
But I still hate cable management.
Eleclover’s cable management solution earns 5 out of 5 Bob Weiners.

July 12, 2016 at 6:22 pmThanks for this, Krishna. Who sells these sleeves? Besides my computer cables, I am looking for an elegant solution for my music cables — when I do a live show I’d like the cables neatly arranged.
Cheers

I found them on Amazon. These would be perfect for music cables as well.
