Long time readers know that I’ve waxed nostalgic on the several computers I’ve owned throughout the years. If you’re looking to relive the “good old days” of Apple computing, Philippe Poppe’s Apple Computer Collection offers a wealth of photos that’s sure to bring back some good memories.
Philippe’s personal collection includes 616 documented items. Nearly every Apple and Mac hardware product ever created is listed here, including some rare prototypes and internal builds (QuickTake camera anyone?). You’ll also find a great collection of books and software titles, which includes a everything from old Apple manuals to a boxed copy of System 7.5 disks.
Philippe’s own journey into the world of the Mac was in 1990,with the Mac Classic and Mac IIsi. His collection started with a gifted Apple //e and grew to epic proportions over the course of 17 years. In addition to Apple gear, Philippe also has a wealth of accessories – from Syquest removable drives to Palm Pilots – on display.
Obviously, one has to have plenty of room to store all this equipment, so naturally I had to ask Philippe about that.
Each and every item in his collection is stored in four rooms in the basement and attic of his mother’s house. Any internal batteries were removed and each piece of hardware is packed in air-tight plastic bags. It took him a whole two weeks to unpack, clean, boot and repack all of his gear.
All in all, Philippe’s collection is impressive. Stop by and take a look – and if you like what you see, drop Philippe a line.
