Time for another edition of the PC Weenies mailbag. Got a question related to digital drawing, tablets and the like? Ask away and I’ll do my best to answer. This week, I received an email from reader Birck C. who writes:
Which tablet monitor-Cintiq, Yiynova, Huion, Basto-works seamlessly with Adobe Illustrator? Does anybody use Illustrator?
My experience with tablets so far has only been with Wacom and Yiynova based models. I can’t comment on Huion or Bosto models as I haven’t used them.
In my testing, Wacom is the only tablet that offers pressure sensitivity with Adobe Illustrator. The Yiynova tablet will work with Illustrator, but it doesn’t offer any pressure sensitivity. If pressure sensitivity in Illustrator is a must-have option to you, your best bet is to purchase a Wacom brand model. (The Cintiq model is what I would recommend.)

August 21, 2015 at 6:33 pmI got my Yiynova 22U V3 running right finally, thanks to suggestions from other forums and a tech support note from The Panda City (Yiynova USA)- I wound up yanking all existing drivers, then installing first the Yiynova disc, then the latest upgrades for my OS, restarting, then plugging in the Yiynova USB cable, and finally, installing the latest Wacom Intuos driver (not the Pro). All this so that I could work in Adobe Illustrator-but it worked. All the horrendous crap that was happening last week is gone. I can select, draw, and everything else pretty much as before, with a Wacom drawing tablet. So I don’t have to dump my new tablet monitor and buy a (shudder) Cintiq. I hope this note can help someone else who is having or has had the same problem.

August 21, 2015 at 8:00 pmAwesome. Glad to hear that, Birck! To clarify: you can run both the Yiynova and Wacom simultaneously? How do you like the Yiynova 22U V3? I’m most curious about the screen brightness and viewing angles.
