What I Learned About Giving Away Avatars

Response to yesterday’s avatar illustration giveaway was pretty great. I wrote the blog post and immediately posted a link to the post on Twitter. I made available 10 slots and they were all claimed within an hour. All 10 avatars have been illustrated (see the images accompanying this post) and sent off to their respective winners.

Things I learned from this experience:

1) People like free stuff.

2) I got a chance to interact with my audience and learn a little more about them.

3) People shared the giveaway on Twitter and Facebook. (Thanks!)

4) They also shared their avatar with their friends and gave me a plug.

While this hasn’t translated into direct sales yet, it has translated into several new people discovering and learning more about what I do. In the end, an act of good karma generated more good karma. Thanks to everyone who wrote in!

If you’d still like an avatar, I can make one for you for a Paypal donation of $20 or more. Thanks, as always, for reading – and for your support!
