Boy, do I feel silly.
My Hackintosh project is now on indefinite hold after speaking to my better half. (It was a true Bob and Pam moment.) Lesson 1: Clear all big ticket projects with the boss first.
I was looking really forward to writing about and sharing the process of building a computer from scratch… and it may not happen now.
But… there is a way it could happen. The project doesn’t have to die. If you’d like to see the Hackintosh come alive, I am accepting donations specifically for this project. A total of 36 contributions of $20 a piece would make the project a “go”.
To sweeten the pot, for US readers who contribute $20 or more, I can offer a custom, signed 8.5″ x 11″ color print and desktop wallpaper (specify size) featuring a character of your choice, like the ones shown below:
Of course, I draw more than just Mad Max characters – visit my portfolio page to see other stuff I’ve worked on. Or if you prefer an avatar for yourself or one of your family members, I can do that too.
For International readers who would like to contribute to the Hackintosh fund, I can offer you a high resolution desktop wallpaper (specify the size) for a character of your choice. I can’t offer prints for International readers (as much as I would like) due to the adding shipping costs involved. If you really want a print, drop me a line (pcweenies@gmail.com) and I can calculate the shipping costs.
Are you in? Cool! I’m accepting donations via Paypal and Square. The Paypal button is right below. If you want do donate via Square, I can send you a custom link – just drop me a note.
Alternatively, you could donate one of the parts via my Amazon Wish List. Of course, you would be getting the same goodies, and my undying gratitude. (And if your company would be interested in sponsoring this build, please drop me a line. We can work something out with advertising on the site.)
As I mentioned before, I really want to make this a project I can build with my daughter. If successfully funded, I plan to blog and record video of the build process to share it with all of you.
With your help, this project can happen. Let’s do it!

Update: I’ve already ordered the case and the motherboard.
Update 2: A generous reader has offered to donate the PSU for the build. (Thank you!)
