I have confirmed that the Yiynova MSP19u tablet monitor works with OS X 10.10 aka Yosemite. I’ve tested the device with Photoshop CC, Manga Studio 5EX and Sketchbook Pro 7. While the Yiynova drivers work without any issue under Yosemite, I would still like to see an updated PenTabletSetting app that offers even more nuance and granular control over both pen and Tablet Monitor.

October 17, 2014 at 3:54 pmHow are you liking the overall look and feel of Yosemite? I’m a little apprehensive about making the upgrade to my 2013 Macbook Air. I know it can handle it, but I like the look of Mavericks. I wasn’t thrilled with the flatness of iOS 7 or the transparency, and see that Yosemite is all that and a bucket of wings. I’ll probably upgrade as my machine can handle it, but just not too keen on the look. Plus when Mavericks first came out it was buggy as heck, so perhaps I should wait until 10.10.1?

October 17, 2014 at 4:00 pmI don’t mind the flat look in the least – in fact, I actually like it. Conventional wisdom would suggest waiting until 10.10.1, but I was willing to take a few arrows by grabbing the download as soon as it was available. I’ve only found one hiccup with my setup on Yosemite – and that has to do with Teleport, a screen sharing app that I use between both my Macs. I was able to find a workaround and all is well. I’m still collecting my thoughts on Yosemite and hope to share my experiences with it after about a week.

October 17, 2014 at 5:38 pmI’m seeing all kinds of tips for workarounds to the transparency that I’m not thrilled with and some of the other quirks. I don’t have the space on my 4s to upgrade to iOS 8 atm, and since it is tethered with my Windows laptop, updating it through the Mac would be problematic as it would want to delete all my stuffs…;) When I can get some room on the old Windows machine, I may upgrade it so I’ll be prepared for all the goodies that can be shared between phone and mac via blue tooth, but for now, I don’t see the benefit of upgrading OS on an older phone that is doing fine as it is (heck, I haven’t even upgraded my old iPad iOS from 6 to 7 yet as the old gal is chugging along just fine without it) but would like to have that connectivity between what will probably become my workhorse once the old Windows laptop finally is put out to pasture with an equipment failure and my phone. But, as you can see, I am not one to jump in with both feet for new OS releases. Guess that just harkens back to my 25 plus years in the IT field. I will probably pull the trigger, but am in a holding pattern and set in my ways (plus really liking the Mavericks look). Looking forward to reading what you have to share with your Yosemite experiences.

October 17, 2014 at 8:03 pmI’ve set my menu bar to “Dark Mode”, which greatly minimizes the transparency. For an iPhone 4s, I would not recommend iOS 8. My wife had an iPhone4, and even with iOS7, the device was too slow to keep up. The old adage: “If it ain’t broke, don’t upgrade” may be the best course of action.

October 17, 2014 at 7:48 pmThank you for posting this! It was my main concern about upgrading, and it’s great to find the answer so easily.

October 19, 2014 at 1:55 pmWhich tablet driver and version are you using? I’m having trouble getting my yiynova to map to anything but the main monitor.

October 19, 2014 at 2:17 pmNever mind. Just had to reinstall pen drivers. I had two different driver installed at one point, and somehow only uninstalled one. Once i cleared out both and reinstalled worked out fine.

October 19, 2014 at 2:20 pmCool deal, Nate! Glad the reinstall squared everything out for you.

October 27, 2014 at 10:53 amI just upgraded to OS 10.10 – and the pen on my Yiynova failed completely. I’ve reinstalled the drivers with no luck. I was hoping to find that this was a problem other people had also had so that I could find a fix, but so far it looks like I’m the only on. I’d love some suggestions if anyone’s got them!
Krishna
October 27, 2014 at 1:55 pmBummer to hear that Suzannah. I’m not sure what could be happening, or how the install of Yosemite would have affected the stylus. For what it’s worth, I’ve upgraded to the new Yiynova stylus (received it yesterday) and it, like the original, both work fine for me in Yosemite. I hope to post a review of the new stylus this week.

October 28, 2014 at 6:21 pmI’m jealous! My current Yiynova is only six months old, so I don’t think that’s the problem. It’s now registering the pen motion — but only on the main mac screen, with no motion, but only click response. Very strange. Oh well, I guess I’ll muddle through it!

October 28, 2014 at 8:53 pmhi Suzannah:
I’d suggest creating a “test” user in Mavericks to see if the tablet works with a different user account on your Mac – this might help pinpoint the problem further. If it works with the test account, there may be an issue with your main user account…

December 17, 2014 at 12:12 pmQuick question. I just bought the Yiynova msp 19u+
the display stays black with my Yosemite system… I have clean installed the OS to make sure I had nothing conflicting with the drivers.
I have downloaded the drivers both from their CA and US websites…
I know the display or cables are not at fault as it seems to work properly on a friend’s computer running the 10.6.8 OS…
Have you had any issues?
all help is appreciated as I’m getting squat from Yiynova
Thanks

March 3, 2015 at 9:20 amSo im having a similar issue, my new I mac can see that the Yiynova is hooked up . But im getting a black screen and no signal on my 19 u idk whats going on
Krishna
March 3, 2015 at 1:09 pmBummer to hear that, Guy. I wonder if the screen resolution is set too high. Do you see the display controls on the Yiynova?
Ken
April 28, 2015 at 9:42 pmGot the Yiynova hooked up and running, but when I try to open Manga Studio 5, it doesn’t open.
Any suggestions?
Krishna
April 28, 2015 at 9:44 pmYiynova’s hardware should detect as a new monitor, and should not affect the launching of apps. To isolate the problem, verify that MS5 launches on your standard display (without the Yiynova connected).
Ken
April 28, 2015 at 10:07 pmIt ;aunches just fine, but I’m also getting “Running on an unsuppoeted OS. Version is not 10.5.8, 10.6.7, or 10.73 or later.” Which is weird sincw I using Yosemite 10.10.3. But that’s another issue probably not related. I hope. Anyway, ‘m connecting the Yiynova again, let’s see what happens when I click on ‘Show in all windows.’
Pretty much the same result. Both monitors’ wallpaper goes blurry, and that’s where it ends.
Krishna
April 28, 2015 at 10:19 pmAre you running the latest drivers? There’s a 2015 driver update on Yiynova’s site.
Ken
April 28, 2015 at 10:09 pmDon’t mind the typo’s, there’s a hyper active Akita trying play with me.
Ken
April 28, 2015 at 10:23 pmGuess I’m heading over to Yiynova’s site then.
Ken
April 28, 2015 at 10:43 pmOk, software updated. Same results. I’m starting wonder if maybe the problem lies on the Mangs Studio side of the situation.
Krishna
April 28, 2015 at 10:44 pmMS5 is at version 5.0.4 I believe. Double check to make sure you’re running the latest version of that.
Ken
April 28, 2015 at 10:52 pmYup, theproblem is Manga studio 5. I have to get an update.
Krishna
April 28, 2015 at 10:54 pmcool! Hope that works out for ya, Ken!
