Back Pain!

Back Pain!

I’ve dealt with back pain on and off ever since my early 20’s, but this past Sunday I was rendered immobile thanks to the excruciating pain of a pinched sciatic nerve on my left leg. That, coupled with lower back pain, left me on the floor in a debilitated state. It was a scary feeling, to be so helpless like that.

Thankfully I’m feeling a bit better now, because:

  • I’m starting to incorporate daily stretching exercises into my morning routine
  • I’ve been sleeping on the floor for the past few days
  • I’m incorporating a daily vitamin intake consisting of multi-vitamins and an extra dose of Vitamin C and D

The stretching exercises have certainly helped. While I still have traces of sciatic and back pain, I do feel a bit of a relief from doing a few yoga poses (Down Dog and Up Dog). Sleeping on the floor wasn’t as uncomfortable as I thought it would be; my back tends to prefer the firm surface. The vitamins seem to be working, but I’m not sure how much they’re contributing to my overall recovery.

In a nutshell, today was the day I realized I’m getting older – that I’m no longer as resilient from injury as I was 20 years ago.
I need to take better care of myself if I’m going to be around for the long haul.

my strong recommendation is to find a gonstead chiropractor – chiropractic saved me from an expensive back surgery about 15 years ago – issues: pinched nerve – sciatica (left leg) and 1 slipped disc, 2 compressed discs .. I hope you find some relief. :)

For what it’s worth, Krishna, you’re not alone; there are lots of us out there just realizing how old we’re really getting! I, for one, would rather not have to take pills for acid reflux, or stare at the gray hairs creeping into my beard. Get better soon!

    For Krishna & others:

Don’t carry your wallet in your hip pocket! Yes, most guys do. Over ten years ago I developed mild sciatica in my left leg; the side I carried my wallet on in my hip pocket. Stopped carrying it in the hip, but rather the front pocket and the pain went away. It hasn’t been back since.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, etc.

Getting older is hell, but it beats the alternative.

Taking a few Calcium tablets (with magnesium included) each night has been the best help for me.

Having the appropiate mattress for everyone and best body position during the day can relieve the pain.
