I’m on my 4th Samsung 305T display, which I’d been using since January. Witness the video artifacts shown in the photos above. I’ve done the usual troubleshooting – checked the connections, powered the monitor off and on, swapped ports and cables. Nada. This display is dying.
Alas, the manufacturer’s warranty elapsed in February of this year, so I am faced with the dilemma of purchasing a new monitor. I need some recommendations from you. I’m looking for a good quality 24″ or greater sized monitor with DVI connections (HDMI connections not necessary) with a matte display that’s capable of displaying content in both landscape and portrait modes. I don’t want to spend more than $300US for one either. And I really don’t want another Samsung display.
Help?

September 25, 2011 at 10:13 pmI’ve been using an ASUS LED monitor. My research was a while ago but I do remember that I had narrowed it down between a Samsung and an ASUS. Mine happens to have speakers that I don’t use (sound quality sucks)… but the colors are great.
When you say “landscape/portrait” do you mean a monitor that physically swivels or one with a button on it? I’m confused since I’m used to just telling my computer how my monitor is oriented. A quick look on NewEgg tells me that you can find ones that physically swivel around $250-300.
(hope that was helpful!)

September 25, 2011 at 11:23 pmI’ve used a Hanns-G 28″ monitor for about 4 years now and it is still going strong. I had just one pixel go out, but it doesn’t bother me at all. They are ridiculously cheap for the size. The colors aren’t perfect, so no professional photography work or whatnot.
I also still have a 22″ Dell monitor for 7(?) years that works perfectly. The monitors from Dell are overpriced though, so might be out of range.

September 27, 2011 at 6:09 amI have used, the Samsung S24A450BW 24in Widescreen LED Monitor, and its earlier model for a while, at home and also at work. I’ve never had a problem with either of them.

There is the link to one on NewEgg, sits right on the edge of your $300 price range :D
The monitor physically swivels, and also has the 190×1200 resolution!
Hope that helped,

September 27, 2011 at 9:14 pmI assume you’ve either tried another monitor on your machine or that monitor on another machine to rule out it being the video card. (Ditto for swapping out cables.)
My old laptop has a weird case where lines will show up across the screen, but I know it’s the video card (it needs reflowing but I haven’t had the nerve to run it through the toaster over to reflow it).
Surprised the Samsungs have had so much trouble for you. Maybe you’re running it at too high a refresh rate (not likely).
