I reviewed Divvy, from Mizage, several moons ago. It’s one of my go-to power tools for managing my workspace. It was only recently that I uncovered a few additional nuggets that make the program even more effective in my workflow.
With the Divvy preferences selected, navigate to the Shortcuts tab. In this section (shown below), you can choose to assign keyboard shortcuts for custom window sizes. I’ve always liked the idea of having windows resize to the edges, so I created two custom keyboard shortcuts. Option 1 moves the window to the left side of my main display and resizes it to occupy the entire left hand side. Option 2 performs the same trick for resizing windows to the right edge.
With these two global keyboard shortcuts in place, I can automatically create a split-pane view – the browser can take up the full left side, and say, MarsEdit, can take the right side. If you haven’t tried Divvy yet, give it a free trial to see if it’s right for you. Divvy’s available for both Mac and Windows and sells for $14.00.
