Art: What was that kid thinking?

During our most recent move, I came across an old comic book I drew when I was a freshman in high school. It was 17 pages long and featured the heroes of S.W.E.A.T. (The Sure-Fire Weaponry Elite Animal Team) vs. BORF (no acronym).

The SWEAT was comprised of Max (the rat), Oswald (the rabbit), and Hubert (the cat) – a group of crime-fighting toughies who waged war against the ruthless helmet wearing villain dubbed Borf.

The SWEAT was part Ninja-Turtles, part A-TEAM, and part GI Joe – an amalgamation of the genres that had a tremendous influence upon me at that age.

I’ll spare you the full 17 pages, but I’ve included a sample below (click to embiggen) so you can see what my 14-year old self was up to.

For grins and giggles, I wanted to redraw one of the hench-villains (a Ninja Cat) to see what he might look like now. Below is the result of that effort.

It was the first time in 24 years I’ve drawn my Ninja Cat (now spelled Ninja Kat) – and it was a ton of fun. I’ll have to do this more often, me thinks.

Update:

I tackled the main S.W.E.A.T. heroes this morning:

    That’s incredibly impressive for a 14-year-old.
Let’s solve this peacefully by fighting!

Tell me what you think!
