Revival of an Animation Desk: Complete!

new desk!

Today, I scored a beautiful plexiglass section for my newly acquired animation desk – for the whopping price of $5.00 at Lowe’s. How’d I get the plexiglass so cheap? It turns out there was a scrap that was roughly 1″ larger than the dimensions I was looking for. The folks at Lowe’s couldn’t sell it new, so they asked if I’d be interested in taking it off their hands for 5 bucks.

Heck yeah!

Talk about being at the right place at the right time :)

The “new” desk is set up in my studio now. The total cost out of pocket to bring this desk back to “like new” state was under $9, including the cost for the fine grain sandpaper I purchased to smooth out the surface.

The desk looks great, and I can’t wait to use it!

Update: a few desk accessories, drawn years ago by my cartooning buddy Bill Charbonneau. I consider the drawing on the left a constant reminder, while the one on my right amuses me to no end. :)

This is scary. I have an older version of the same table without the light-hole. It’s missing the paper-catch (holes are there for the screws) and one of the cross braces needs replacing, but, other than the tilt knobs being metal, it’s the same table.

OMG! I’ve been looking for such table for 2 years now! I keep switching from my portable drawing table and my lightbox, which is a pain sometimes.

Thanks for fixing that one for me Krishna, I’m going to pick it up soon! :P

Haha! Our school was giving them away, Antoine. I’m not sure where you’d be able to find one of your own (and I’m keeping mine, buster!) :)

Krishna, as impressed as I am about your table, what I REALLY wanna know is… WHERE did you get that chair? And how much (approx.) did it cost (If I may be so bold). I only ask because I need a new one badly.

Chris, I bought mine at Office Depot, and paid around $150 for it (I think). :)
