Wear Your Seatbelts!

I was involved in a serious near head-on collision this afternoon. I, and the driver and passengers with us, lived to tell the tale because we wore our seatbelts.

Both cars were totaled. My cousin was driving, I was in the passenger seat, and his wife and kids were in the back of the mini-van. As we were turning left at an intersection, a silver Mercedes Benz going roughly 45 mph smashed into us from the opposite direction.

Before my cousin could react, our car was hit, spun around, and violently tossed back a distance of approximately 200 feet. The passengers in the other car sustained minor abrasions.

Little did we know: what would start out as a fairly pleasant day (my sister’s commencement ceremony) would have some unexpected surprises in store. One minute things can be fine, the next minute things can turn ugly.

We were lucky. We survived because we buckled up. I hope you do the same when you drive.

Wow! I’m glad you’re all right, Krishna, as well as the others. And yeah, seatbelts = required.

I’ve known several people that “just never made it a habit” or seriously thought they would get less injured if they were thrown from their vehicle than from the pressure of the seatbelt on their body.

Better to be bruised by a belt than get wedged in a windshield, I say.

Glad to hear no one was seriously hurt. Bet you’re more sore today than you were yesterday.

Glad to hear your cousin had his kids buckled up. Smart man. I see soooo many people who don’t do this.

Glad to hear that you and everyone walked away relativley un-injured. Car accidents are always a bit tramatic no matter the actual scale. Hope all remains well with you and yours.

Holy guacamole, Krishna! How awful! I am so glad you’re ok!

When I first saw today’s comic, without having read your note about the car crash, I thought maybe you were beginning to go all Vincent Van Gogh on us and going crazy for art. I’m relieved to know your noggin is still ok. :-)
