I’ve been quiet about this for the last several weeks, but wanted to share some news on the Cintiq fund raiser I started in mid-January. Within the last 3 months alone I was able to raise enough money to purchase the Cintiq 12WX, thanks to the generosity of readers who’ve offered their support by way of purchasing PC Weenies guest-star appearances within the comic.
At MegaCon in Orlando, a month back, I finally had a chance to do a hands-on test with the Cintiq, at the Wacom booth. I realized a few things upon using it: the screen is much smaller than the 6″ x 8″ of my trusty Intuo3, which meant more scrolling in and out while drawing. Also, there were more cables dangling out of it, making it somewhat more cumbersome to work with. Now, the drawing surface was every bit as responsive as nearly all the reviews bear out, but I guess after playing with the Cintiq 12WX hands on, I didn’t feel the incredible urge to buy one, as I did when the first reviews of the Cintiq came out.
So, for those of you lusting after the Cintiq 12WX, my advice is to definitely play with one in person before ordering it.
All the money earned from the guest-star appearances thus far will go back towards the site and other tools I need to create my comic. I’d like to thank each of my guest-stars for their overwhelming show of support. There have been days where I wonder if any of the work I’m creating is worth doing. Each and every time I receive an e-mail from a reader, a comment on the comic, a chat from the Google Talk app on the site, or a new guest-star order, it reinforces the notion that people really do enjoy the comic and want to see it continue.
And I truly appreciate that.
