My Audio Switching Hero: Sound Menu
I’ve had my Plantronics 650 headset for about 2 weeks now. I’ve been pretty happy with it except for one minor niggle: in order to use it, I would need to make a trip to the Sound Preference under System Preferences to select the headset as my primary audio input and audio output.
No big deal, right?
I also have a pair of Logitech speakers that I like to use when I’m working. Again, in order to toggle the audio output, I would go back into the Sound Preference in System Preferences to make the change.
That is, until earlier this week – when I came across Sound Menu. This little Menulet allows you to switch your audio input and outputs in just two clicks. You can also mute all audio sources, and even choose which audio source you’d like to pipe your system alert sounds into. Sound Menu works on Mac OS X 10.4 on up. It runs like a champ on Leopard. January 7, 2008 at 3:56 amYou should also check out Rogue Amoeba’s SoundSource. I have used it for years and it works great. I even has an option specially built in for the MacPro to automatically switch to headphones when you plug them in (Pro machines don’t automatically do that???). I read you every day!
