<p>My month long break from the PC Weenies starts today (in case you haven&#8217;t heard, <a href="http://pcweenies.com/2011/01/01/happy-2k11/">we&#8217;re moving</a>), but that doesn&#8217;t mean the comics have to stop. Stepping in with today&#8217;s Angry Birds themed &#8216;toon is the inimitable <a href="http://www.markrudolph.com">Mark Rudolph</a>. </p>
<p>Mark&#8217;s range of <a href="http://cvcomics.com/MARKRUDOLPHILLIO/?page_id=3">comics</a> and <a href="http://cvcomics.com/MARKRUDOLPHILLIO/?page_id=5">illustration work</a> is incredible. Do check out his <a href="http://www.markrudolph.com">portfolio site</a> to see his work, and <a href="http://cvcomics.com/STORE.html">buy one of his books</a> while you&#8217;re at it. If you like sci-fi with a mix of the Twilight Zone thrown in for good measure, I&#8217;d recommend <em>War</em>, <em>John Oxbow</em>. If you&#8217;re a fan of metal, you owe it to yourself to check out Mark&#8217;s recently published <a href="http://cvcomics.com/MARKRUDOLPHILLIO/?page_id=195">illustration book</a> on the subject.</p>
<p>Mark maintains <a href="http://cvcomics.com/">a process blog</a> where he&#8217;s sharing a behind-the-scenes look at his first long form graphic novel-in-progress, <em>Subterra</em>.</p>
<p>Thanks, Mark, for a terrific PC Weenies &#8216;toon!</p>

<p>Today I received my artist edition copy of <a href="http://cvcomics.com/?p=604">&#8220;Curse of the Pharaohs&#8221;</a>, written and drawn by my good buddy <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com">Mark Rudolph</a>, co-host of the always entertaining and informative <a href="http://www.artandstorypodcast.com">Art &#038; Story podcast</a>. &#8220;Pharoahs&#8221;, an all-ages action / adventure book is 24 pages long, and printed with heavy stock cover and premium gloss interiors. The book looks gorgeous!</p>
<p>My copy came with an autographed original inked piece signed by Mr. Rudolph himself. &#8220;Curse of the Pharaohs&#8221; was my first exposure to Mark&#8217;s work a few years ago, as part of the original <a href="http://sugaryserials.com/">Sugary Serials</a> line-up. I was blown away then, as I am now &#8211; holding the printed edition in my hand. This book screams quality &#8211; you won&#8217;t be disappointed. You can purchase your copy through <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com">his website</a>.</p>

<p>Mark&#8217;s artwork perfectly compliments the rest of the pieces I have on my animation table.</p>

<p>My buddies <a href="http://www.kevincross.net">Kevin Cross</a> and <a href="http://www.joshuakemble.com/">Joshua Kemble</a> of the legendary <a href="http://illustrationparty.blogspot.com/">Big Illustration Party Time</a> podcast are in a jam.</p>
<p>What is the <em>Big Illustration Party Time</em> podcast you ask? To borrow their byline &#8211; it&#8217;s &#8220;a podcast about the ins and outs of freelance illustration and cartooning&#8221;. It&#8217;s a GREAT show for artists and illustrators with lots of valuable content. The production quality of their episodes has been top-notch.</p>
<p>Recently, however, <a href="http://illustrationparty.blogspot.com/2009/05/episode-19-technical-difficulty-party.html">their recording equipment died</a>, and to add to the woes, they don&#8217;t have the financial means to get new equipment.</p>
<p>Not wanting to sit around, myself, <a href="http://www.mlatcomics.com">Jerzy Drozd</a>, and <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com">Mark Rudolph</a> (of the excellent <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com/artandstory">Art &#038; Story podcast</a>), decided to help save the day by creating some pieces of art that Kevin and Josh can auction off to raise money to purchase new recording gear. All proceeds raised will go directly towards getting replacement recording gear.</p>
<p>Below are two pieces that will be available for auction:</p>
<p>1) original pencils featuring Bob and Kevin&#8217;s character <a href="http://www.monkeymodcomic.com/Welcome.html">Monkeymod</a> drawn by Jerzy:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3572007582" title="View 'MonkeyMod pinup by Jerzy Drozd' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2473/3572007582_d20e3fcaf4.jpg" alt="MonkeyMod pinup by Jerzy Drozd" border="0" width="449" height="500" /></a></p>
<p>&#8230;and a color print of the above, inked and colored by yours truly.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3571164139" title="View 'Big Illustration Party Time Benefit Art' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2424/3571164139_1c52509d4a.jpg" alt="Big Illustration Party Time Benefit Art" border="0" width="445" height="500" /></a></p>
<p>Mark Rudolph submitted this gorgeous piece featuring BIPT host Joshua Kemble and Thadius Gizawatt, Mark&#8217;s own character from his incredible <a href="http://cvcomics.com/?p=259">Mulligan&#8217;s Run</a> book. (<strong>Obligatory plug:</strong> I have a copy of Mulligan&#8217;s Run, and folks &#8211; it is GORGEOUS &#8211; both from an illustration perspective as well as production perspective. The story is a Sci-Fi / action / drama extravaganza!)</p>
<p>Here is the piece Mark is submitting for the BIPT Benefit:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3571164257" title="View 'Big Illustration Party Time Benefit Art' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3358/3571164257_88e89f0893.jpg" alt="Big Illustration Party Time Benefit Art" border="0" width="500" height="370" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Update:</strong>And here&#8217;s another gorgeous piece by Mr. Rudolph:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3573755241" title="View 'CRABLOR and MonkeyMod by Mark Rudolph' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3635/3573755241_dbe4f25c85.jpg" alt="CRABLOR and MonkeyMod by Mark Rudolph" border="0" width="500" height="428" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Update:</strong>Even more wonderful pieces will be available up on the auction block in the next few weeks:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3577709257" title="View 'MonkeyMod by Kim Holm' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/3577709257_95e85338e4.jpg" alt="MonkeyMod by Kim Holm" border="0" width="353" height="500" /></a></p>
<p>The energetic piece above was created by Kim Holm.</p>
<p><strong>Update:</strong> Here&#8217;s a vintage poster with MonkeyMod and Pete Townshend (of The Who!) created by artist <a href="http://thomasjamesillustration.com">Thomas James</a>:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3579313441" title="View 'MonkeyMod and Pete Townshend by Thomas James' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2462/3579313441_c7450b73c9.jpg" alt="MonkeyMod and Pete Townshend by Thomas James" border="0" width="386" height="500" /></a></p>
<p>And another one by Thomas, featuring Josh and Kevin!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3590418140" title="View 'BIPT benefit piece: Thomas James' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3641/3590418140_94fc3d5f74.jpg" alt="BIPT benefit piece: Thomas James" border="0" width="500" height="386" /></a></p>
<p> Below is a collaborative piece featuring pencils by Jerzy and inks by Mark Rudolph. (That&#8217;s Josh hanging out with Jerzy&#8217;s character, Orange Guy, from <a href="http://mlatcomics.com/front_index.html">The Front</a>.)</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jerzydrozd/3576829503/"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3635/3576829503_b8b2bc5c0a.jpg?v=0"></a></p>
<p>And this beautiful pen and ink illustration comes courtesy of <a href="http://mstroud.squarespace.com/">Mark Stroud</a>:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3581131485" title="View 'MonkeyMod by Mark Stroud' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3347/3581131485_cde19fbc43.jpg" alt="MonkeyMod by Mark Stroud" border="0" width="500" height="403" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/58365198@N00/3589729320" title="View 'Danno Klonowski : Big Illustration Party Time Benefit art' on Flickr.com"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3379/3589729320_fdd59b1792.jpg" alt="Danno Klonowski : Big Illustration Party Time Benefit art" border="0" width="385" height="500" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Update:</strong>a bold new piece by <a href="http://staplegenius.com"> Danno Klonowski</a>.</p>
<p>Want more details? Stay &#8216;tuned to <a href="http://illustrationparty.blogspot.com/">Big Illustration Party Time</a> for auction info. Information will also be available here and also on <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com/artandstory">Art &#038; Story</a> as well.</p>
<p>And if you&#8217;re a cartoonist or illustrator &#8211; and you&#8217;d like to help out Kevin and Josh by way of contributing your own art for the fund-raiser auction, <a href="http://pcweenies.com/contact-me/">please let me know</a>. I&#8217;ll pass along your e-mail to Kevin and Josh. If you prefer to donate to the cause in lieu of art, you can click their Paypal button on their site.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s make it happen for these guys!</p>

Their work can also be seen at <a href="http://www.sugaryserials.com">Sugary Serials</a>. Both Jerzy and Mark specialize in long-form, serialized comics, so it was doubly awesome for me to see their collaboration in a strip format. What was even more impressive is that both guys took time out of their incredibly hectic schedules to make today&#8217;s comic. I think they both did a terrific job &#8211; I can&#8217;t thank them enough.</p>
<p>I first came across Jerzy and Mark via their <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com/artandstory">Art &amp; Story podcast</a> a few months ago. If you make comics, you <em>need</em> to listen to their podcast. I&#8217;ve benefited greatly from the discussions and creator interviews they have, whether it be on panel layout, character design, or any other comic making subject. It&#8217;s one of my top three podcasts I listen to each week.</p>
<p>From time to time, I participate in their live sister-podcast, <a href="http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=14504&amp;cmd=tc">Art &amp; Story Alive</a>, which runs every Monday afternoon at 5PM EST on Talkshoe.com. I&#8217;d like to tip my hat to both gentlemen for making a fantastic strip that truly made me smile. Please share your comments on the strip below, and better yet &#8211; visit <a href="http://mlatcomics.com">their</a> <a href="http://www.cvcomics.com">sites</a> and give them some feedback!</p>
<p>Thanks once again, Jerzy and Mark!</p>
