My month long break from the PC Weenies starts today (in case you haven’t heard, we’re moving), but that doesn’t mean the comics have to stop. Stepping in with today’s Angry Birds themed ‘toon is the inimitable Mark Rudolph.

Mark’s range of comics and illustration work is incredible. Do check out his portfolio site to see his work, and buy one of his books while you’re at it. If you like sci-fi with a mix of the Twilight Zone thrown in for good measure, I’d recommend War, John Oxbow. If you’re a fan of metal, you owe it to yourself to check out Mark’s recently published illustration book on the subject.

Mark maintains a process blog where he’s sharing a behind-the-scenes look at his first long form graphic novel-in-progress, Subterra.

Today I received my artist edition copy of “Curse of the Pharaohs”, written and drawn by my good buddy Mark Rudolph, co-host of the always entertaining and informative Art & Story podcast. “Pharoahs”, an all-ages action / adventure book is 24 pages long, and printed with heavy stock cover and premium gloss interiors. The book looks gorgeous!

My copy came with an autographed original inked piece signed by Mr. Rudolph himself. “Curse of the Pharaohs” was my first exposure to Mark’s work a few years ago, as part of the original Sugary Serials line-up. I was blown away then, as I am now – holding the printed edition in my hand. This book screams quality – you won’t be disappointed. You can purchase your copy through his website.

Mark’s artwork perfectly compliments the rest of the pieces I have on my animation table.

• Big Illustration Party Help!

My buddies Kevin Cross and Joshua Kemble of the legendary Big Illustration Party Time podcast are in a jam.

What is the Big Illustration Party Time podcast you ask? To borrow their byline – it’s “a podcast about the ins and outs of freelance illustration and cartooning”. It’s a GREAT show for artists and illustrators with lots of valuable content. The production quality of their episodes has been top-notch.

Recently, however, their recording equipment died, and to add to the woes, they don’t have the financial means to get new equipment.

Not wanting to sit around, myself, Jerzy Drozd, and Mark Rudolph (of the excellent Art & Story podcast), decided to help save the day by creating some pieces of art that Kevin and Josh can auction off to raise money to purchase new recording gear. All proceeds raised will go directly towards getting replacement recording gear.

Below are two pieces that will be available for auction:

1) original pencils featuring Bob and Kevin’s character Monkeymod drawn by Jerzy:

…and a color print of the above, inked and colored by yours truly.

Mark Rudolph submitted this gorgeous piece featuring BIPT host Joshua Kemble and Thadius Gizawatt, Mark’s own character from his incredible Mulligan’s Run book. (Obligatory plug: I have a copy of Mulligan’s Run, and folks – it is GORGEOUS – both from an illustration perspective as well as production perspective. The story is a Sci-Fi / action / drama extravaganza!)

As I promised earlier, this week (M,T,W,Th) will feature guest-strips from some truly talented cartoonists from all across the web. Friday will feature a Halloween-themed ‘toon by yours truly.

Today’s ‘toon comes to you via Jerzy Drozd and Mark Rudolph.

You can check out more of Jerzy’s comics at MLATcomics. Mark’s comics can be found at CV Comics. Their work can also be seen at Sugary Serials. Both Jerzy and Mark specialize in long-form, serialized comics, so it was doubly awesome for me to see their collaboration in a strip format. What was even more impressive is that both guys took time out of their incredibly hectic schedules to make today’s comic. I think they both did a terrific job – I can’t thank them enough.

I first came across Jerzy and Mark via their Art & Story podcast a few months ago. If you make comics, you need to listen to their podcast. I’ve benefited greatly from the discussions and creator interviews they have, whether it be on panel layout, character design, or any other comic making subject. It’s one of my top three podcasts I listen to each week.

From time to time, I participate in their live sister-podcast, Art & Story Alive, which runs every Monday afternoon at 5PM EST on Talkshoe.com. I’d like to tip my hat to both gentlemen for making a fantastic strip that truly made me smile.
