At long last, I’m pleased to announce the first Guest-Star PC Weenies strip in quite some time. Tom Racine, the affable host of the incredibly popular Tall Tale Radio podcast, gets the spotlight today.

I let Tom get a sneak peek of his guest-star appearance earlier today, and he had this to say:

Hot damn, man! I am so honored. I love your style so much, and to be a part of it is just amazing. I love panel 3! :)

Today’s strip features first-time PC Weenies guest-star Kinzie Kramer. Her guest-star appearance, which included a photo frame of her print AND an original sketch, was sponsored by her coworkers.

Before I begin any guest-appearance, I like to find out a little bit of information about the person and possible tech themes to include. One of her directors supplied the following tidbits:

For two years, Kinzie has been the administrative assistant for our engineering department. She’s transferring to a new job in marketing, and the comic is a goodbye gift from the engineering directors (her bosses). One possible theme is “weird stuff you find yourself doing when you support an engineering team”.

I received a few photos of Kinzie for reference, and worked up the custom comic you see up above.

Upon receiving her guest-star gift, Kinzie e-mailed me:

Hi Krishna,

Thank you so much for my comic! I was so thrilled when Jill presented it to me last Friday. And I’m also honored to be apart of your comic strip. Please find a photo attached. I’m on the right in the photo :-)

Today’s PC Weenies guest-star comic was commissioned by Ellen Spertus. You may remember her and her husband Keith’s appearance many moons ago.

Today’s ‘toon celebrates the birth of their daughter Julia who arrived a few days ago. Both Mom and daughter are doing fine! A hearty congratulations to the proud parents!

BTW, this Saturday I’ll be selling books, giving sketches and high-fives at the Spring Street Festival in Tampa. There will be a host of other vendors, artists, and local community members with things for sale. The address of the venue is:

A few weeks ago, I appeared on the PixelatedGeek podcast. It was a ton of fun to hang out with the crew there. Nelson, one of the members of the team, commissioned me to have the PixelatedGeek mascot (dubbed Pleek) appear within a PC Weenies strip.

What is significant about this guest-star is that it marks the first time another cartoon character has appeared in a PC Weenies strip as a guest-star. Including Pleek was a bit of a fun challenge for me, because the only point of reference I had for the character was the image shown in the PixelatedGeek header.

When it comes to computers and electronics, my daughter is like a blond. She can spend hours typing a report, then either not save it or forget where she saved it. She also expect the Internet to respond instantly, and gets very frustrated when she has to wait for pages to load (probably due to all the junk she has downloaded on to our computer). And finally, she just got unlimited text on her cell phone, so she has forgotten how to TALK to her friends.

Atypical Grail Quest (Guest-Starring: Victor Cajiao!)

(I’m taking a brief pause from the Footle storyline this week. Don’t worry, we’ll find out what happens to Bob and Maurice next week. Stay ‘tooned.)

Today’s guest-star ‘toon features Victor Cajiao, host of the very popular Typical Mac User Podcast. Victor has been a long time supporter of the strip, with appearances going back for the last 5 years (he holds the record for being in more PCW comics than any other guest-star!).

Guest-Starring is a fun way to appear in a comic. It’s also a great way to surprise a friend on a special occasion. It’s also a fun way to support the comic. (Who knows? Maybe your guest-star comic will appear in the next PC Weenies book!)

My goal this year is to beat the 2008 record of 29 guest-stars. I know we can do it. Whaddayasay? :)

Guest-Starring: Jarmo Hanninen

Before we re-embark on the current Footle storyline, may I present to you a slight detour with today’s guest-star strip?

Today’s comic features self-avowed PCW fan Jarmo Hanninen, who lives in Finland. (And for the record, I’ve drawn strips for guest-stars hailing from across the Atlantic, namely Italy, Germany, Israel, and England. I’ve even received a guest-strip written and drawn by some talented guy who lives in Sweden.)

The number of US guest-stars still outnumber our overseas counterparts, but I have a feeling that our international friends may change that soon… (Hint! Hint!) :)

Anyway, I digress…

Jarmo had two requirements for his guest-star appearance: somehow both Finland and coffee had to be in the strip. The challenge was quickly accepted and the result you now see before you.

And, for those of you who are interested, Jarmo’s webcomic can be found at Finn-Strip.

Jarmo’s avatar will soon appear on the Featured Guest-Star list for 2009. And the guest-star list from 2008 is also available for your perusal.
