Today’s comic was inspired by a recent Gizmodo article entitled “It’s Time to Exterminate the Mouse”. Of course, trackpads are not the end all be all of computing; I use both depending upon the task at hand. With design packages, I find the mouse a much more precise tool. But in terms of alleviating wrist problems with daily use, the trackpad wins hands down. Do you prefer mice to trackpads? Yay or nay – sound off in the comments below.

ROM: Spaceknight #1!

After many years of searching, I am finally in possession of ROM Spaceknight #1, a series published by Marvel Comics in the late ’70s. I’d like to give special thanks to one of my former students, Michael Pritchard, for gifting me this issue. Any other ROM fans in the house?

PCW 12-8-09 panel teaser

Tomorrow I’m wrapping up the Pam storyline, and I have one or two more strips left before I take a break for the rest of the year. I’m seriously looking forward to my upcoming India trip. It’s been 4 years I last visited Mumbai, or travelled anywhere overseas for that matter, so I’m due. Lots of great people, awesome food, and some much-needed R-n-R – can’t complain about that!

Rebootus Maximus books

If you want to order “Rebootus Maximus” for gift-giving this year, you’ve got just a few more days left. Artist edition orders today will receive ORIGINAL PC Weenies pencilled art from the book, taken from my sketch book, plus the other goodies (sans color print).

Simply put “Sketchbook” in the subject header when you place your order, and I’ll take care of the rest. I need at least 10 more orders to save the beard.

Oh, and if you’re in Mumbai or Pune between December 19th and January 4th, and want to meet up, drop me a line. I can’t make any promises (as I don’t have an idea of my itinerary as yet) but I’d love to meet some readers from abroad.

The strip you see above you was the second (and final) attempt. I was happy with the script, but the first version (shown in inks and colors, below) just didn’t sit well with me. Specifically, I felt that the characters in the panel layouts weren’t exaggerated enough. The third panel was particularly awkward, as Pam’s shrug is half cut off. The visuals for the 4th panel – meant to reinforce the punchline – was also weak. So, I decided to start from scratch once again.

Interestingly, the first version was done purely with the tablet from start to finish. What I realized after drawing it was the following: As much as I enjoy working digitally, my brain is somehow still wired “analog” when it comes to developing the initial sketches.

So that’s exactly what I did with the final version. I sketched it out on paper, then inked it in Painter X. Like usual. Oh, and I’ve also been experimenting with using a thicker brush. Lemme know your thoughts…
