Macworld Expo news…

I’m not there, but I’m pinging back and forth between a few sites – (credit to Macworld and Mac360). I’m leaving out lots of details – check these sites for all the up-to-the-minute info.

Here’s what’s announced so far:

1) Time Capsule – An Airport Extreme base-station that includes a hard drive. Two models: 500GB ($299) and 1TB ($499). Will no doubt make it easier for Macbook and Macbook Pro users to back up their data. (I called an upgrade to Airport Extreme on Victor’s show on Sunday, but the addition of a NAS is sweet.)

2) iPod Touch now has the capability to check mail, maps, stocks, notes and weather using Wifi. This is pretty sweet. (I may actually get one now.)

3) iTunes movie rentals (I think many people already called this one a few months back)

4) Apple TV gets a major update (about time!) – you can rent movies and also buy music through it without needing a computer. Price: $229 (down from $299 – ouch to the early bird adoptors)

5) MacBook Air – world’s thinnest notebook $1799 – no optical drive.

That’s all, folks!

Down the Pike…

2008 has started off with a bang – There are some really exciting projects and announcements I’ve been dying to share with all you guys and gals, that I can’t quite talk about just yet.

What I can say is that I’ll be featured in an upcoming Gigcast podcast , discussing how WordPress/Comicpress worked out for me. We recorded it last night, and hosts JT Shea and Scott both informed me that it should be up for a listen on Wednesday.

A new Uncubed rears its head (no pun intended) today. The saga of our baby’s birth continues, as I shift back to the standard black-n-white format.

In site related news, below each post and comic, you should now see a “Share This” text and icon. This little gem of a WordPress plugin will let you conveniently tag a comic to any of several social networks. It will also let you e-mail any of the posts and comics on the site. Translation: The PC Weenies e-cards are back! Use ‘em well and spread the word about the PC Weenies. :)

Making Today's Comic…

Are you curious to see the behind-the-scenes of creating a PC Weenies comic? Well, be curious no more – I’ve created a very brief slideshow (opens in a new window) that outlines the steps I used to create today’s comic (Victor Cajiao’s guest-appearance).

In other news, this year I’m setting some BIG goals. First and foremost on that list is to earn enough money to purchase a Wacom Cintiq 12WX, the holy grail of digital tablets. I’ve dreamt of owning a Cintiq for a number of years, but seeing the newly announced form-factor and price point finally puts it in the realm of possibilities.

So far, $135 of the $999 has been raised since January 1st. How can you help? Glad you asked!

Baby questions…

Sonia’s 5 weeks old and doing very well. One thing Aarti and I have come to realize is how expensive baby items really are – like diapers and formula. We’ve stuck with the brand names thus far, but I would like to know from other parents out there as to whether generic (i.e. Target brand) items are just as good. There is a 50% mark-up between generic vs. brand name baby items, and I’m curious to know if going “generic” is okay and safe for my little girl.

Thanks!
