I’m earnestly taking on some new commission work to kick off the new year.

Eagle-eyed readers may have noticed the arrival of the new PC Weenies store, which offers PC Weenies related merch. Right now, there are two items. The first is a limited edition poster, featuring the illustration below (one copy remains):

The other is a custom poster print commission option, where you can customize a PC Weenies poster exclusively for you.

How does it work?

First, pick up to three PC Weenies characters you’d like me to include. In lieu of one of the characters, I can optionally include a “guest-star” of your choice – so if you want me to draw you or your nephew hanging out with Bob and Milton riding in a Mini Cooper – that’s no problem. Once you’ve picked your characters, place your order. I’ll send you a confirmation note once your order has been received.

As for the prints, there are three sizes to choose from:

8.5″ x 11″ – printed on glossy 100 lb cardstock

16″ x 20″ – printed on poster quality paper.

24″ x 36″ – movie poster sized, also printed on poster quality paper

Once your order has been received, it will take about two weeks for delivery. First, I’ll work up a sketch for you. Once it meets with your approval (I can provide up to two revisions) I’ll proceed to the inking and coloring phase. After the colors / inks have been approved, I’ll send the poster off for printing. I use PosterBurner for all my poster prints. They do phenomenal work; the poster quality is amazing. I use a local printer for the 8.5″ x 11″ prints.

As always, thank you for your support. (And feel free to hit me up with any questions you might have…)

Support your favorite Weenies. Order today!

Thanks!

I have officially released myself from a fixed update schedule for PC Weenies. The idea of a fixed update schedule, to me, has become archaic. With so many modes available, such as Twitter, Google+, Facebook, and even RSS feeds, I find that it is no longer necessary for me to release my comics on a set schedule.

One of the mantras oft quoted by webcomic “professionals” is to publish on a regular schedule. I feel this formality is no longer necessary. When a new comic is released, my RSS feed automatically updates. After a new comic has posted, I send messages on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ to inform my readers. I also maintain a rather sizable subscriber list that receives the comics by e-mail. Several webcartoonists also have custom apps that “push” to notify readers when a new comic is available.

Given the options, I can’t think of a good reason why a fixed publishing schedule makes sense. I’ll continue to make my comics and post them when they are ready, whether it’s in the middle of the day, or on a weekend. Of course, I’m interested in spurring some dialogue on this matter, so feel free to chime in with your thoughts. What do you think? Does a fixed update schedule make sense to you, given all means outlined above?

If you visit the site today, you’ll notice a tweak to the navigation menu / header. It’s smaller in size to place the comic and comic navigation “above the fold”. I hope this little usability tweak will make it even easier to view the comics within the archive, particularly on smaller displays. As always, I welcome your feedback on the changes.

You may have noticed one subtle tweak to the buttons underneath each comic. I’ve added a new voting incentive as a means of spreading the word about the PC Weenies. If the latest comic receives 50 Facebook shares by the end of the day, I will create and post a new PC Weenies wallpaper for everyone to download. Get voting and tell a friend!

Finally, even though I avoid popularity contests (because I’ve never been “popular”), I would like to submit your attention Exhibit A:

The Washington Post is conducting a “Favorite Webcomics of 2011 poll” and are taking open submissions of your favorite strips.

I have to admit, it would be kinda neat to have the PC Weenies on there, but instead of asking for a vote, I’d respectfully ask you to vote for your favorite webcomics, whatever they might be. The Post is also taking direct e-mail submissions at comicriffs@washpost.com.

I’m unable to replicate the problem, so what I’d like to ask each and everyone who reads these posts is the following:

Could you let me know whether or not you are seeing apostrophes replaced by commas in my blog posts? Could you also report back the OS, version and browser (and version) that you are viewing this post on?

Your feedback will hopefully help me nail this problem once and for all. (Google searches have been futile.)

It’s been a while since I’ve solicited feedback on the PC Weenies website, so I’ve opened the floor to ask you, dear reader, for your thoughts. How’s the site loading for you? Anything you want to see changed / altered / adjusted? Have an idea you’d like me to consider?

Drop me a note in the comments below! (And thanks, in advance, for your input!)

Since I announced the extended hiatus for PC Weenies, I’ve been surprised by the overwhelming show of support I’ve received from readers. Thank you.

This morning, I was tipped off to the fact that the announcement made it to the front page of Comic Book Resources and a few other comic news sites.

I really wasn’t expecting that.

I wanted to clarify a few points. While we’ve had some additional expenses these last few months, I want to emphasize that things aren’t dire. Bills are bills, and this too shall pass. I wrote that earlier blog post in the heat of the moment.

Truth be told, for the last few months or so, I’ve been giving some serious thought to shifting gears to other projects that I’ve never quite had the time for. That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy making The PC Weenies, or that I’m giving up – it’s just that after 13 years or so, I want to do something different for a while.

I’ve learned so much in creating this comic series. I’ve grown to really love these characters. I am very proud of what I have created.

This is not the end so much, as it is a new beginning. I will continue to update the blog with reviews and articles that you’ve come to expect. I hope you’ll stick around.

Stay tooned,

Krishna

Some under-the-hood changes to the PC Weenies site are taking place. You’ll notice, first and foremost, that there is a small “Archives” pull-down menu on the left-side bar under the comic. I am in the process of categorizing all the comics on the site to make navigation much, much easier.

The categories are:

Storyline

Guest-Star

Random

Classic

Guest-Strip

Want to read the whole Footle storyline in one go, without having to read the stand-alone ‘toons? You’ll be able to do that now. Want to read only the Guest-Star or Guest-Strip comics? You will be able to do that with this new navigation.

There are over 500+ comics on the site to categorize, so the process will take some time, but if I tackle 30 strips a day, I should be able to complete the whole shebang in about a week’s time.

On the right sidebar, you’ll now be able to quickly select between the different categories to start reading. Give the new navigation a whirl and let me know what you think!

Special thanks to Phil “Frumph” Hofer, the WordPress Comicpress God and All-Around Generous Guy, for implementing the technology to make this happen. Thanks, Phil!
