I was inspired by an article I read over at Coding Horror. I’ve always believed documentation to be a crucial part to the software development process, but a case can be made against excessive documentation actually cluttering the code base. Thoughts?

Time for my pitch!
I need to sell some PC Weenies merchandise in order to afford to go to the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland.
Artist Edition and Regular Edition copies of PC Weenies Rebootus Maximus are available, but supplies are running low. Once they are gone, it will never be printed again!
Digital copies of “Rebootus Maximus” are also available for those who prefer that medium. Only $5!
I’m also taking on commission work to raise the funds I need to make expenses for the trip. Let me make you a custom PC Weenies print or sketch. Optionally, you could donate as well by clicking the donate button below the toon.
Your support means a ton. Thanks in advance for your support!
Enjoy the toon!

It would seem that free soda and software development go hand-in-hand. Years ago, when I worked as an engineer, it was one of the perks we could partake in. I remember my sugar consumption back then was off the charts. Thankfully, I’ve kicked the cola habit.
So, my question to those of you who develop software at work: what type of food / beverage perks do you get? Are beverages de rigor in your company? Sound off in the comments below.

I wanted to get this one finished but I ran out of time. Inks and colors will happen this weekend. In the meantime, you can see the raw pencils.

I’m exploring a new technique with drawing today’s comic. Namely, I’m drawing each panel on a separate file (without the template) and inserting the drawings into the panel. The result: My drawings can be more loose and expressive, and I’m able to get better line variation. So I’ll go this route from now on. Working inside a panel all these years has always felt a bit confining. This new approach gives me a bit more freedom, and I like that.
The Mentor Experiment application period is over. I was pleasantly surprised with the tremendous level of interest in my mentorship offering. Rest assured I’ll be going through every entry this weekend and announce my apprentices right here on the blog on Monday.
In other news, I’ve added a “Donate” button underneath each comic. If the PC Weenies are a daily visit and you want to show your support, there’s no better way than giving a donation. Just donate whatever you think its worth. Your donations will help me get to the Small Press Expo, held in Bethesda, MD.
Thanks again for your support!

This year I am making a commitment to learn Javascript, to add some neat tricks to what I’ve learned in HTML and CSS. Programming languages tend to intimidate a lot of people, but I see that it’s becoming even more increasingly important to know how to do it, if you’re trying to be marketable in the tech industry. My big hope is that schools start introducing programming classes at the early level (grades 3 through 5), to get children exposed to how fun programming can be. I could only dream of having such electives back in my school days…
Anyway, hats off to all of you who have decided to take the plunge and learn a programming language this year. In my opinion, it’s never been a better time to start!
P.S. The first PC Weenies book is now available for the Amazon Kindle. Read on for more info!

Four years ago today, I made the decision to switch to multi-panel comics.
Looking back, 2011 has been another slow but steady year for the PCW. Book sales were solid (both digital and print editions), as was my first foray into selling PC Weenies poster prints (via eBay auction) – thanks to a very supportive readership. (I’m also now available for custom PC Weenies print commissions!)
2012 promises to be even bigger and better for the strip. There are some notable loose ends that will be resolved (I didn’t forget them) and more adventures with Bob at Footle. I’ve been on the fence with continuing storylines because there are times where I want to interject a topical toon in between. There’s no easy way to do it, without confusing new readers – which is why I’ve held back from long form story-telling.
2012 is the year that I plan to finally finish Book 2. The reason for the delay? I’ll be honest – it’s been tough to find time to write new stories outside of my 3-strips per week schedule. I could release the book as a collection of existing strips or I can continue to wait until I have at least one new story to include. I’m torn as to the route I should take…
Anyway, thanks for reading and supporting The PC Weenies. Tell your friends about the strip. Good word of mouth goes a long way.
Let’s press forth and kick some ass in 2012!

It’s true – social networks like Facebook make people miserable.
Most people would stop something that makes them so upset, but I suppose that social networks are the exception. After all, misery loves company…, right?
Check out the new PC Weenies Shop, featuring a new option – custom colored and inked prints featuring up to three PC Weenies characters of your choice!

Presenting… the last strip before I head out to the west coast on a much-needed vacation. Inks and colors will happen soon (as per usual). And we have a winner in the PC Weenies Holiday Caption Contest – Kevin Smith!
Congratulations Kevin!
