I’m running Mavericks on both my Macs, which isn’t as impressive as you might think, until you realize that both my Macs are over 5 years old. Not bad for old hardware.
Upgrading went smoothly enough – I installed on top of my existing Mountain Lion install. The only problem I’ve encountered after installing Mavericks is that my favorite app, Teleport, does not seem to work anymore. After deleting the preferences and reinstalling the app on both my Macs, Teleport works beautifully now.
The rest of my apps (Adobe Photoshop, Manga Studio 5 EX and others) seem to be running just fine on the new OS. Even my Yiynova MSP19U tablet seems to be handling Mavericks well.
Of course, the real excitement for me was the flurry of new hardware announcements. I’m firmly eyeing the new Macbook Pro machines, but I’m in no rush to buy (unlike Bob). ;)
Anyway, enjoy Wednesday’s comic a few hours early! Next week we’ll kick back into the story, okay?

October 25, 2013 at 2:29 pmI’ve upgraded my wife’s MacBook to Mavericks, but it was late at night so as soon as it finished I shut it down and went to bed. I’ve been too lazy to do my iMac, so I haven’t actually seen Mavericks yet.
I hope it’s more stable than the Windows 8.1 upgrade I did at work recently. That’s made my Dell lock up once already, which is more than that machine did in the last couple of months. On the other hand, Windows 8.1 fixed the problem with the brightness controls not working.

October 27, 2013 at 6:34 pmJust to follow up, I installed Mavericks yesterday morning and since then my iMac is running slower than it ever has before. I get the beach ball all over the place… Safari takes forever to load most web pages, and many of them go white when I do things in other tabs…
It’s an awful upgrade!
And my iMac is just from mid-2011, so it’s not terribly old. Maybe with only 8 GB of RAM it’s just doesn’t have the power for a 2013 operating system and web browser.

October 27, 2013 at 7:03 pmbummer to hear that, Kevin. I wonder -did you run any maintenance utilities (Disk Utility / Disk Warrior etc.) before installing the update? There may have been issues that manifested themselves after the upgrade…
