I lost 12 lbs in the span of a month, with a goal of getting back to my ideal weight (185 lbs) by my 40th birthday this September.
For me, the motivation to lose weight was a direct result of my last physical check-up. Diabetes runs in my mom’s side of the family, and while I’m relieved that I am not diabetic – I was one tick shy of becoming one. The results from the physical were a real wake-up call for me to “get it in gear” and take my health more seriously.
How did I lose the weight?
Here’s what I did:
- Eat more fruits and vegetables.
- Cut back on dairy products like milk and cheese
- Eat smaller portions and share an entrée with my wife when eating out
- Exercise. (walking and cycling)
- Limit beer consumption.
All of these things have really contributed to my weight loss.
Losing the weight has had a tremendous upside for me – I have more energy now, I feel lighter (no more gut), and (according to friends and family) – I look 10 years younger.
Weight loss is a process. It takes discipline. There are no “easy” cures. I’m very fortunate that my wife loves to make healthy meals for our family.
For me, weight loss boils down to:
- Eat right.
- Exercise.
- Stay focused.
185 lbs. – here I come!
