Okay, everyone…
We’re going to start off with a warm-up exercise.
Draw one full body character attitude pose for each of the expressions described below. Use the same character for each expression. The character is a heavy-set, but tall male.
1. Tired
2. Happy
3. Angry
The characters’ poses should clearly convey the expression without having to look at the face of the character.
If you’re playing along, post a link to your results in the comments below. Apprentices have already been given the assignment. Due on Wednesday!

January 8, 2012 at 6:35 pmWondering. Are the assignments to be done on one’s most comfortable medium, or whatever one chooses, except when you specify?

January 8, 2012 at 9:32 pmGood question – I’d say use what you feel most comfortable with. I’m not so much focused on the specific tools than I am in the underlying concepts.

January 11, 2012 at 8:13 pmI did these for warm up tonight. I already looked at some of the ones that had been posted, so I tried to star away from poses I saw.

January 13, 2012 at 2:46 pmAwesome to see everyone’s versions of this experiment.
I added silhouettes to the experiment…. I learned the value of the action line (gesture drawing style) and how much we do depend on details in a drawing or sketch to convey the message, or the emotion we want to express. Check it out, and please let me know what you think. I did a crit on myself LOL…
