Cooper

Starting this year, I want to give back to the art community in a serious way.

Specifically, I am looking to mentor two apprentices for the next 10 weeks.

Do you have the fire to improve your skill level? Are you in an artistic rut? Need help with your character designs / poses? Are you motivated to create and unafraid of critique? Do you have a strong work ethic?

If you said ‘yes’ to all of the above, you may have what it takes to take part in my new experiment. It’s completely free – in exchange for the mentorship, I will use your examples on this blog and discuss ways of looking at your work to get you to the next level.

Each week, I’ll give my apprentices assignments to complete. They will email their work and I will post my critique on the blog along with some design notes. The goal of this experiment is to inform and educate other artists who are feeling frustrated with where they are at.

So who will my two apprentices be? We’ll find out next weekend.

To apply for this position, send along a brief essay (100 words) about why you would like to be an apprentice and what you struggle with the most as an artist. Why do you think this apprenticeship will help you? Be sure to include your essay and a short drawing sample of a character (full body) to me at pcweenies@gmail.com no later than Thursday, January 5th.

I’ll make my selection this weekend and will inform the winners. Assignments will be given when the winners have been notified. I will also post the assignments on this very blog in case you want to try your hand at it, too.

This is a grand, crazy experiment, and I hope it’ll be a fun and educational one as well.

Happy 2012!
