This isn’t so much of a review as it is a quick burst of initial impressions after using the Apple Magic Trackpad for a few days. I purchased the Magic Trackpad to familiarize myself with using gestures in preparation of Apple’s forthcoming Lion OS.

A few days into it, here are my thoughts.

1) I don’t miss using my Kensington Trackball.

2) The precision of the Magic Trackpad is good, but not excellent. I’m still in the habit of clicking the Magic Trackpad button versus touch tapping to click.

3) Some of the gestures (like Click, Right Click, Double Click) are intuitive – the others (like rotate, page back / forth, switch applications) take time getting used to.

4) the Magic Trackpad user’s guide on the back of the box is a nice touch. It’s a regular fixture on my desk as I learn more gestures.

5) I keep the trackpad separate from the keyboard (not flush like in the photo) when I’m actually using it.

All in all, I like the Magic Trackpad. It’s much easier on my fingers and works well with my dual monitor setup. My biggest criticism isn’t the device so much as the cost. $70 seems pricey – $40 seems like a more reasonable price point. (Who am I kidding. This is Apple.)
