I drew the “pencils” using the Scratchboard tool in Corel Painter (using red) and applied a black Color Overlay to the pencil layer in Photoshop.

Aha, I always forget the different overlay options. Sometimes inking over a crisp sketch layer can be redundant. Thanks for posting this!
