I just tell people that I am liable to forget their names, and ask them again the next to time I meet them. Then I remember.

I'm horrible with matching names to faces. I tell my student's: I'm great with names. I'm great with faces. I'm not so great with names and faces. Usually gets a laugh.

It takes me about six weeks to connect them.

I really avoid saying their name unless I'm POSITIVE I know it (usually not true). I wait for someone else to say it, or if it's just me and a person I can avoid saying it because hey, who else would I be addressing?

I don't try. I meet so many different people each day, I don't try to remember the names on the first visit. On the second or subsequent meetings, I let them know I forgot their name. Beats coming up with a wrong name.

I'm really awful at names, though I'm otherwise really good at details. If I know a name will be important, like in an interview, I'll mentally add the name after each statement to that person, like saying the person's name, but in my head... It works for short term, but I probably won't remember the name the next time I see the person. After I meet a person 5-6 times, I can usually remember the name.

*lmao* @ "Peter/Paul" reference! Nice! *lol* Ummmmmm, I am terrible with names, so I usually try to associate them with something or someone. This sounds really cheesy, but I can almost always remember a person's zodiac sign without fail, so if I can associate their zodiac sign with their name, I'm usually golden! :D

Professionally, I just ask if they've got a business card ...

I just carry around a package of name tags and insist everyone wear them. :) Seriously though it is nice when a company has security standards and makes employees wear IDs. It can get a little weird trying to read the name badge without looking like a creep, and if they wear it on their belt just forget it.

I know someone who showed up for an interview a day early. She never bothered going back the next day because she was so embarrassed.
