Friday’s Sequential Artists’ Pub featured Jerzy Drozd filling in for me, hosting a discussion with a roundtable of cartoonists on the subject of fear. Specifically, what we fear most as cartoonists.
The cartoonists who participated on the call included:
- Garrett Williams
- Scott Story
- JT Shea
- Tom (AxoniteV3)
- Carlisle (Steal This Comic)
- Ryan Dow
- Deano_inabiskit
- Dungeon Warden
- Frumph
- KSelkelsky
The next show is in two weeks: November 14th. Be there!
-Krishna

It’s spelled Carlisle. I know you’ve got a lot on your plate, but thought I’d mention it. Sorry to hear about your baby. Hope everything’s better.
-C.
Oops. Fixed. I didn’t check the spellings – just copied and pasted the show notes from Jerzy. Apologies, Carlisle. It’s been fixed. :)
Man an episode to remind me how much I suck at being a cartoonist! and I missed it! Great show guys I wish I was there and not having to go to bed early.
I listened this episode VERY carefully and I honestly think it sucked. Nothing against any of you but making an episode about bitching vast majority of people isn’t good. They are your readers, they Are the majority of people and let’s face it – comic reading (I mean just besides spider-man and donald duck or newspaper strip readers) people are minority.
This is one way to alienate people who might possibly be your future audience.
Well, I think if the episode truly did suck, the responsibility of suckage falls squarely on the host’s shoulders.
Sorry you feel that way, Jarmo. It was probably a dicey topic to tackle in the first place, but at the same time I can’t recall any specific moments where any of us were suggesting that we thought that the readers are EVER to blame for any of our relative works not reaching any kind of mass appeal. If anything, I thought we were talking about our fears of us as cartoonists not being good enough to find an audience, but perhaps I didn’t do as good a job as I could of framing the discussion with that notion.
The good news is that Krishna will return in the next episode. I think it’s also okay to have the occasional stinker episode in a regularly updating podcast. If the show consistently sucked, then I would worry. I take hope in the thought that there’s always another episode to try it over again.
I listened to the episode this afternoon, and while Jarmo is certainly entitled to his opinion, I think the show wasn’t bad at all. Jerzy did a good job keeping the conversation going and the panelists did address something that many cartoonists are concerned with. Jerzy, for what it’s worth, I thought the show was solid.
