Enjoy a special Sunday bonus strip – continuing the storyline begun earlier this week.

Our 7th podcast of the Sequential Artists’ Pub was a smashing success. We had a record number of folks show up to participate and discuss comics with special guest Steve Hamaker. We discussed how Steve got into the business, what it’s like working with Jeff Smith (Creator of BONE), and gleaned some insight into his coloring techniques. We also discussed the subject of backgrounds within comics. One book, Perspective! How to Achieve a Professional Look in your Artwork, came highly recommended.
Our roundtable panel was a diverse lot, comprised of the following folks:
…and many, many more. (If you were at the show, and I omitted your link – hit me up and I’ll add it to the list.) As always, comments, feedback, and mailbag questions are encouraged and appreciated. Who should we try to bring on for an upcoming episode?

In the wee hours of Friday morning (today), pcweenies.net went down. I woke up at 5AM (as I am wont to do on Fridays) to see an Internal Server Error.
The log files mentioned something along the lines of:
17-Aug-2008 21:09:10] WordPress database error Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci,IMPLICIT) and (utf8_general_ci,COERCIBLE) for operation (blahblahblah)
I’ve googled about, but haven’t found a clear answer to what might have caused the error. My best guess is that the collations were changed from utf8_general_ci to latin1_swedish_ci. How could this have happened?
Thanks in advance!

Expect a special Sunday bonus strip that continues the storyline. If you dig the ‘toon, please cast your Buzzcomix vote for it.
Also, tonight at 10PM EST, we’re having our 7th Sequential Artists’ Pub gathering, featuring a roundtable of cartoonists from all walks.
This time out, we have a very special guest lined up: Steve Hamaker! Steve’s amazing colors grace the incredible BONE series; and he’s also the creator of Fish n Chips. Our show is open to ALL cartoonists, so please bring your favorite beverage and stop on by!

Above are the raw pencils from my sketchbook, for the 8-18-08 strip, guest-starring Tanya.

First up, I’ve added our recent guest-star, Tanya Joy de Marco, on the Featured Guest-Star page.
Next, a brand new UNcubed surfaces today.
Brand new Art & Story Alive podcast. We discuss character brainstorming techniques and exercises (similar to what I posted on the blog yesterday), and delve into our thoughts on the recent Robert Kirkman video editorial. It was a terrific show, with a great turnout. Give it a listen!
Finally, this Friday at 10PM EST – we’re having another Sequential Artists’ Pub gathering. Bring your favorite beverage! The SAP! forums have been very active. To join the conversations in progress, register on the boards. It’s free, it’s fast, and it’s fun!

Today’s guest-star toon features Tanya Joy de Marco, commissioned by her boyfriend Piero Timpano (who, incidentally, was one of the FIRST ever PC Weenies guest-stars to appear within a strip.)
In planning Tanya’s guest-star ‘toon, Piero gave me the following information to work with:
My Girlfriends name is Tanya Joy De Marco… she is a model here in Malta… and a technophobic– ish!
she can do email, internet banking, struggles with facebook and MSN…. however..
She owns a HTC universal Mobile phone ! Complete conundrum! Anyhows, I just started building her website and thought a weenie would be a great addition! :)
Have fun!
Thanks, Piero! Hope Tanya enjoys her appearance!
